4th Gen Focus goes Upmarket, will get "Active" Variant

Fields is the one that got the financial house in order before Mulally got there. Maybe Fields was overly cautious, but at the same time he was creating a financially stable company that could survive an economic down tick.

Fields was ok when he had a sounding board above him for affirmation and direction. He didn't have the testicular fortitude to be *the* one at the wheel.

Most of my sources within the glasshouse are fairly positive on Hackett... He's doing the job he was brought in to do. The same guys have plenty to say about Fields' brief moment in the chair... none of it good.

He did a good job restructuring Ford Europe and he was using that model for "the way forward but Mulally saw that and decided

to go much further with streamlining the business and ending duplication of products and internal systems.

The other side of that was financials and Don LeClair deserved a big hat tip for his plan to borrow heavily while Ford underwent

restructuring, Mulally saw what he was doing and convinced LeClair to borrow as much as Ford could from the banks to which,

LeClair asked Mulally to present Ford's plans to lenders to increase their chances of getting the added lending.
