Bryan1
"Despite the engineer's best efforts to block the camera from capturing the dashboard, and his follow-up admonition that 'You are not supposed to do that!' we can now see the interior that is fitted to the Ranger test trucks being developed in America...Grabbing these photos motivated a Ford engineer to get a little physical and threaten to 'bust up' my camera, with a few choice F-bombs for effect. Just mentioning that for the record." Link: http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2017/09/2019-ford-ranger-interior-engine-spied.html
akirby
Maybe it's just me but the proportions on that crew cab just look goofy with the elongated front end and stubby rear end.

Yeah, for me it's more that the greenhouse looks too short on them. And I've never understood why these midsize trucks have to have such massive taillights. 02MustangGT
Ford is sparing every expense with this design. It's a refresh of the current model. Whoever said the front end lost the Asian look and shares F150 DNA in the other Ranger thread is completely incorrect. Looks more similar to the Edge grill and the rest of the panels look the same as the current Ranger. I'm not complaining as I guess this is kind of expected, but it is a little disappointing. fuzzymoomoo
2 things of note Solid rear axle and Independent front suspension Whatever engine that is it's not an I4

LOL at "the Asian look" - T6 Ranger was designed in Melbourne by the Aussies and has undergone transition in style from the original "Visor" front end (2011 2015) to the current corporate Edge/Explorer/Escape front design language. Can anyone determine if the engine bay shot is a V6 plenum and radiator or the top of an I-4 covered in wiring harness? Sevensecondsuv
If that's an I4 the intake is on the opposite side of every other rwd Ford 4 banger. It's also missing the plenum over the valve/cam cover that's typical of Ford's inline engine designs. It definitely does appear to be an inline design though - there's only one bank of cylinders. If I had to guess, I'd say we could be looking at the 3.2 I5 diesel. It has that strange looking green thing the driver's side of the engine. This looks like something associated with the high pressure fuel system of a diesel. Then again I've never seen a 3.2 diesel in the wild so I may be completely wrong. snooter
I will wait until i can really see the dam thing and sit in one...off hand i dont like the cheapo plastic lookin interior and i cant see any current taco owner rushin down to ford to buy an trade...but until i see the real deal its about useless to even guess what we end up with
fuzzymoomoo
On closer inspection I think it is an I4. You can see the cam phasers on the top front of the engine. It has to be either a 2.0 or 2.5. I don't see any of the air intakes indicative of a turbo engine.

If it's an I-4, look a the air intake tube, it's on the RHS leading down to the exhaust manifold which suggests Ecoboost I-4 The next question would be 2.0 or 2.3? You are correct, it is a turbo (I'm used to seeing the 2.3 in the Mustang where the air intake comes over the top of the engine since the air box is on the driver's side). My gut says 2.3.

My gut says 2.3. And if it is a 2.3 EB, that throws up a lot of questions regarding the need for a V6... Could this be the entry point US gas engine and performance global option while North America reserves an EB V6 for a higher series sports truck? Remembering that the 2.3 EB will probably be around 300-320 hp.... Edited September 27, 2017 by jpd80
fuzzymoomoo
What are the power numbers in the new 3.3 in the F-150?
92merc
What are the power numbers in the new 3.3 in the F-150? The new naturally aspirated 3.3-liter V-6 base engine in the F-150 makes 290 hp at 6,500 rpm and 265 lb-ft of torque at 2,750 rpm – that’s 8 hp and 12 lb-ft more than the 2017 model’s base 3.7-liter V-6 engine. The new engine features dual port and direct injection in place of the 3.7-liter’s port injection. A six-speed automatic backs the 3.3-liter engine. http://www.automobilemag.com/news/2018-ford-f150-expedition-v6-290-horsepower/
fuzzymoomoo
There you go, there's the base engine if the 2.3 is the "volume" choice.
RPF
Also, it looks like this mule has a standard "US" style rear axle with an inspection cover instead of a dropout style axle commonly seen in the APAC markets. I wonder if this is an 8.8" or if it is a Dana of some kind. I know Dana won an axle contract for the Bronco/Ranger but it may be just for the front axle center section. SoonerLS
If I had to guess, I'd say we could be looking at the 3.2 I5 diesel. I don't see any COPs, so I'm guessing it's an oil burner. Looking at the intake plumbing, I'm also guessing it's forced induction.

silvrsvt
this could have been release 2 years ago. No real big changes.... While it may look somewhat similar to the current Ranger, a new set of engines, improvements to the chassis, interior, etc and not to mention lack of a place to build it till recently all poke holes in your argument. Ford just can't just flip a switch a spit these things out...
