Honk Honk

How do you bypass the double honk when you leave truck running and get out with key fob in your pocket? Push button start 2017 F250. Thanks in advance.

Get yourself a compatible OBDII adapter for your computer and a copy of Forscan. Then use the info you can find here to turn that off, among other customizations you can do.

Or, you may be able to get your dealer to turn that off using IDS. But most will just shrug and say that they can't do it.

The issue lies in liability. That honk is to remind the driver it's still running and the key has left the vehicle. That feature is annoying but it's to help keep folks from letting the vehicle run in a garage. So what happens when that is disabled and a customer forgets to turn off the engine and someone gets carbon monoxide poisoning or worse? In this day and age people sue over spilled coffee. Imagine someone dying because a feature was disabled. Dealers probably won't do it. Waivers won't mean crap in a court.

Doesn't it honk when you leave the fob in and the vehicle running? I've disabled the double honk with Forscan, so I don't remember.

Correct if the fob is in the car and a door is opened then closed it will not honk. It thinks someone is still in the vehicle. I have not used forscan. I would like to see what all it can do.

Forscan is awesome! There is tons you can do. I have:

1) Disabled the double honk

2) Activated Secure Idle - can't put the truck in gear without a fob inside

3) Bambi mod - keep the fogs on with the high beams

4) Enabled the GT theme for Sync 3

5) Added heated/cooled seats to Sync homescreen

6) Increased the number of flashes for the turn signal 'pass' feature from 3/5 (no trailer/trailer) to 5/7.

7) Increased the timeout for the power points

8) Changed tire pressure threshold to lower my tire pressure. 80 psi is too much when not towing.

9) Showed engine and transmission temps above gauges

10) Enabled DPF % full screen

Ok. While you smart guys are on the honk-honk line of thought, answer me this.

I have a 2016 Focus 5-speed manual trans. Regular key, not a fob. Every once in a while I'll turn the car off and get the honk-honk. I've tried to replicate it, but never can.

What makes a regular keyed vehicle honk-honk. Can't find an explanation in the manual, dealer doesn't know, and I can't figure it out.

You don't happen to be locking it and closing the door with the key still in the ignition do you? Only thing I can think of off-hand.

One more thing a quick search brought up: "The double beep is caused when any door but the driver's side door is opened and closed after the car is shut off and the key is still in the car."

Nope. Not locking it. Like I said, I've tried to purposely do it, but can only do it by accident.

It usually happens when I get home. I'll do my best to describe it. I usually coast into my garage. I keep the clutch pressed in and put the transmission into reverse so that my rearview camera comes on while moving forward so that I can tell when I am just far enough in to close the door. I turn the ignition off, pull the emergency brake and open my drivers door. Sometimes it honks, sometimes it doesn't. If I can figure out what's doing it I'll change my routine. If I can't figure it out, I will turn it off with Focccus or Forscan if possible, but this is the first vehicle that I know of with a key that does it.

It only honks if you close the door all the way and walk away with the fob in your pocket. If you don't close the door all the way it will not honk at all.
