sullynd
I'll never understand why there isn't a (V6) Ecoboost Mustang.
fuzzymoomoo
I'll never understand why there isn't a (V6) Ecoboost Mustang. there was one rumored to be coming while I was working at FRAP. Either some shit stirrer made it up or it was a thing and the hair cancelled it.

Either some shit stirrer made it up or it was a thing and the hair cancelled it. Too bad the 3.0 is FWD. (Tho I suppose a 3.0 version of the 2.7 from the F150 would be easy.)
Anthony
Watch This Ford F-150 EcoBoost Blow the Doors Off A Hellcat get an almost three second head-start on a Hellcat because the idiot driver spun the wheels. http://www.thedrive.com/watch-this/14410/watch-this-ford-f-150-ecoboost-blow-the-doors-off-a-hellcat Sorry had to do it. The truck is massively impressive.

Stray Kat
Okay so what you're saying is the next Mustang (S650) should be smaller, lighter (aluminum body) have AWD and sport a 3.5 Ecoboost. Is that a viable thought?

Is that a viable thought? Maybe? The rumor was that the refresh would get an Ecoboost V6 before presumably either the hair cancelled it or it morphed into the GT program. akirby
I don't know that it even made it that far. The original plan for a Mustang supercar never made it past the drawing board. When the project got cancelled they started the GT skunk works project.

When the project got cancelled they started the GT skunk works project. That's what I thought. I'm pretty sure that's where the rumor on the floor at FRAP came from. jcartwright99
I'll never understand why there isn't a (V6) Ecoboost Mustang. Performance would be too close or exceed the V8.
akirby
A 2.7T would fit nicely between the 2.3T and the 5.0 although it probably wouldn't increase sales. I still expect to see a forced induction V8 Mustang GT500 with at least 700 hp.
jasonj80
But the 2.7 or 3.0L for exports would allow a considerable cost savings in countries with a displacement tax.

Mad Hatter
4x4 I'm sure is playing a huge part in that as well. For sure. The only close start was the first match with the Firebird.
SoonerLS
For sure. The only close start was the first match with the Firebird. The Firebird has an advantage in being significantly lighter than the others. From what I could find, the Firebird with a 400 should've weighed about 3400lbs from the factory, while the porky Hellcat runs around 4500lbs and the 4x4 SuperCrew EB35 is on the high side of 4900lbs. 1100lbs is quite a weight advantage for the Firebird over the Hellcat. akirby
Somebody posted weights of midsized sedans on another forum. Fusion is 200 lbs heavier than Camry and Accord. And the fuel economy reflects that. Edited September 19, 2017 by akirby changed weight difference from 400 to

akirby
400lbs?? That is unreal. Given fact visually if anything IMO the Camry looks bigger. Any opinions on just where the Camry gets that weight reduction? Sorry, it's only 200 lbs, not 400. Most are in the 3200 lb range while Fusion is 3400+. Still fairly significant. 351cid
My 2013 Fusion SE weighs 3480 with a full tank of fuel and no one in it. Just for reference; my 2013 Mustang GT Premium weighs 3660 in the same guise. My 72 Gran Torino Sport weighs 3720. It got put on a diet when I tore it apart for the rebuild. I have a certified truck scale on site. Edited September 19, 2017 by 351cid
brucelinc
That F150 was running at Brainerd when I was last there. The owner is a great guy and the truck does run exceptionally well. I didn't line up against him because I didn't want to get beaten by a truck! Some of his wins were due to the other drivers not doing a good job but that takes nothing away from a 12.4 second truck. By the way, 4 wheel drive is a huge benefit for launching but a detriment toward the end of the quarter. I would love to see that engine in a Mustang but it would likely need AWD to put that low end torque to the pavement.
