F150 ecoboost takes on hellcat, plus others

Recommended Posts

For sure. The only close start was the first match with the Firebird.

The Firebird has an advantage in being significantly lighter than the others. From what I could find, the Firebird with a 400 should've weighed about 3400lbs from the factory, while the porky Hellcat runs around 4500lbs and the 4x4 SuperCrew EB35 is on the high side of 4900lbs. 1100lbs is quite a weight advantage for the Firebird over the Hellcat.

My 2013 Fusion SE weighs 3480 with a full tank of fuel and no one in it.

Just for reference; my 2013 Mustang GT Premium weighs 3660 in the same guise.

My 72 Gran Torino Sport weighs 3720. It got put on a diet when I tore it apart for the rebuild.

I have a certified truck scale on site.

That F150 was running at Brainerd when I was last there. The owner is a great guy and the truck does run exceptionally well. I didn't line up against him because I didn't want to get beaten by a truck! Some of his wins were due to the other drivers not doing a good job but that takes nothing away from a 12.4 second truck. By the way, 4 wheel drive is a huge benefit for launching but a detriment toward the end of the quarter.

I would love to see that engine in a Mustang but it would likely need AWD to put that low end torque to the pavement.
