RMShu
My new Fusion 2.0 has only 400 miles and running great. Getting the normal 30 MPG on the highway. The windshield wipers seem about 4 inches to long. When running they reach all the way to the roof edge. The overall length from the pivot to the end is 37 1/2 inches. Each blade is 27 inches. Seems to me a 24 inch would work just as well. Is there some requirement for blades this long? Anybody have any thoughts about this?
RMShu
Nobody but me on line this morning. Went to Ford Parts and found the standard Fusion blades are 26 inches(I measure mine at 27 inches) Looking at the Lincoln MKZ and found they run 20" L and 24" right. The Continental is the same. Engineers make strange decisions some times. I think I'll go look at what the Taurus has.
RMShu
Seems like I'm talking to myself. Checked Ford Parts and looked at windshields. Fusion, Tauras, MKZ and Continental all use the same windshield part number--03100 So I'm guessing an owner can have his choice of wiper blades 20", 24" 25" or 26". murphy62
Does your car have Adaptive Cruise Control and the Lane Keeping System? If so, the wipers must clear the area in front of the camera.
RMShu
No my car is an SE and doesn't have that. Where is that camera installed anyway?

theoldwizard
Wiper sizing is related to Federal Standards that require a certain percentage of the windshield be cleared with each pass. I am not certain if any other Ford products have this, but my 2016 Edge clearly has 2 distinct wiper motors that are NOT mechanically linked. They wipe from the inside to the outside. When the key is off, you can easily move them independently and it is interesting to watch how they re-synchronize themselves !
MKX1960
I'm looking on Rock Auto and they list different blades with and without the rain sensor. If the car is brand new, I'd expect it to have what's correct on it. If in doubt, go to the dealer and check.
RMShu
Thanks everybody for your comments. The car is brand new (400 mi) and has the wipers as per the Ford Parts list(26") but they are the longest wipers I've ever had on a car. Doesn't make sense to me that the same windshield in a Lincoln car has shorter ones. perhaps the angle it slopes has something to do with it. Engineers make interesting decisions sometimes and other engineers sometimes ask "why"?
