'18 Expy Interior Review

Recommended Posts

Ford says those buyers are looking for seating for up to eight passengers, space for their luggage, flexible cargo capacity

and towing capability, all to accommodate a family-oriented lifestyle that includes regular vacation trips, routine towing and

ability to support hunting, camping and fishing outings.

The interior plays a huge role in accommodating those demands, says Joe McCarty, Expedition marketing manager.

“It’s a very capable and adaptable interior,” McCarty says. “It’s not just about the cockpit or the driver and front passenger,

it’s about everyone in the vehicle. Every seat is a good seat.”

I'm hoping Expedition is a knockout hit with buyers...

I don't get the bitching about price. They're right in line with the GM offerings which is the competition for these trucks.

Mid-upper 70's at least for the high end models, that's a lot of $$ - what's not to get? It's a lot of money for the GM twins too.

These vehicles are not for everyday people, they are luxury cars to allow people to have luxury but still say they drive a Ford. I know many business owners who drive GM SUVs just so they can show their employees that drive a Chevrolet like they do. Most non car people (90% of the population) don't know what they cost.

Also remember Expedition qualify's for 179 so you can deprecate $25000 in year 1 and to 0 over the next 4 years.

Considering the content your recieving compared to the content snd capability of the previous expy and its current competitors, the price seems right. If you dont want to pay 70k plus for an expy, dont get a platinum, the "xlt" and limited are plenty loaded for upper 50s and low 60s, the same as nissan and toyota and cheaper than gm. The only thing i dont agree with is how the option and features are spread. There should be no reason why the drivers assistance pkg and sync 3 with touchscreen are not std on xlt when it starts at 51k when just about all manufacturers now offer these std across their vehicle lineups.

It is a lot of money for each, but that is what the market appears to be baring. The Expedition isn't a discount vehicle and should be priced comparatively to the GM twins. This doesn't mean that the dealers can't be aggressive on their discounts to compete with GM, but with a new vehicle I don't anticipate that to be the case right off the bat.

My guess is that it's because there's still buyers that want nothing to do with that gadgetry electronics stuff.

GM did just recently announce a new cheaper base model Tahoe that starts at around $48K I think it was. Granted, it has basically nothing on it, but still.

Or they just feel like the market hasn't yet demanded all of that stuff as standard equipment and can make more making them options right now.

At the pricing of the 2018"s, this is where current Navigator customers are at. To be in the same price range I was in with a 16 well optioned Platinum would require me to drop at least to a lightly equipped Limited. That will be too big of a step for a lot of customers. Of course, the 18 has more content and more modern looking, but without the price advantage it had hold back sales at least at the upper trim levels.GM seems to own this market and with similar pricing will continue to do so.

The vehicle isn't even up for sale yet and you condemned it to failure? They're not going to catch GM right away, maybe never, nevertheless it's going to take some time. That doesn't mean they have to give them away especially when the market will allow for that kind of pricing.

It will be a custom, so the options are al la carte. Itll start at 48k and pretty basic but you can option it with presumably the high end options. Pretty interesting idea and actually very smart. If you cant win with a better product, give the customer a product they can make from scratch at a better price point.

As far as the interior goes, im def looking forward to the amount of features and usability of the interior(in my opinion the greatest update to the current expy), but for some odd reason, everu time ford works on the expy, they never go all the way. For this redo, its the dash. Yes the f series are doing great but their interiors are competetive. The dash os not competetive to the market, as the gm and nissans interiors are both nicer looking and seem to have more consistent materials. But thats my only gripe in what will be probably the best suv on the market bar none(if the ride and handling is marketdley improved as well)

One could argue that the GM twins are overpriced as well as the Armada and Sequoia... but I digress...

Not saying Ford should drop the prices on the lineup. Instead, they could sell the fleet-only Expedition XL trim at retail and call it a day. :)

The xl would probably sell pretty well.

Since we are tlking about the interior, it would be interesting to talk about your favorite or most anticipated interior feature and also most disappointing feature.

The second row seat space and mobility is tops for me. In my nav, i dnt like the fact that i have to move my seat fwd to give better leg space for certain friends or to fold the seat for third row access. Also, folding those seats confuse all people who need to go back there. Looking at the dealer vids, that wont be a problem on the redesign. The twin panel moonroof is an hon mention and my wifes must have.

The sliding second row seats are a break through for Ford. This feature would be nice on all models if the owner was able to make a choice between second row passenger space or cargo space.

for those making pricing comments, in a nutshell,.....the more expensive a vehicle is the smaller the pool of buyers....therein lies the issue, unfortunately the Expedition, due to inflation and content, finds itself at an MSRP that most cannot fathom, let alone afford.....
