IMSA-XJR9
http://www.racer.com/nascar/item/143063-chevy-will-field-camaro-in-cup-series-starting-in-18 Chevy will field the Camaro ZL1 in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series starting in 2018. The ZL1 features a 650-horsepower supercharged engine and 90-degree V-8 configuration similar to Cup racing engines. So . . . will FMC make the switch to Mustang in Cup? (The Xfinity Mustang looks horrible in my opinion.)

IMSA-XJR9
And nobody will notice one way or the other. Probably true, but racing car fans might (even if it is just a body shell over a frame). I like seeing new race cars, but with the Camaro already in Xfinity . . . . not that big of deal I suppose. akirby
Except it's not even a new car - it's a new grille and decals with the same body, chassis and drivetrain as the SS.
tbone
I do think it would be nice if they would switch to the Mustang, since it is a sports car. But perhaps they don't want the optics of the Mustang being beat by a Camry when that happens.
fuzzymoomoo
Honestly what difference does it make? They're all the same with minor cosmetic differences. The real differences are in the engines and even that is basically the same.
tbone
Which is why NASCAR interests me very little. I pretty much just check to see if a Ford won once in a while.

coupe3w
The Chevy fans will eat this up. But when a Fusion beats a Camaro oh boy the Ford fans will go wild. LOL
RichardJensen
The cars are a bit more brand specific than they used to be--maybe because that's one of the ways Nascar can engineer results. Also, am I the only one amused by the fact that the Nascar Camaro has better visibility and a larger greenhouse than the production model? Stray Kat
I thought the top tier series which used to be called Winston Cup were supposed to be mid or full size coupes or sedans? No pony cars or sports cars. This is yet another concession they have given the "general" in my opinion.
fuzzymoomoo
What were they supposed to use, the Impala? They would be right back in the same situation....

It's just a different front bumper/grille.

fuzzymoomoo
Those are the stickers they ran for a number of years. I'm aware of that but that wasn't my point. With rumors of the Impala soon meeting its demise they would be right back where they are now. What would they do then, use the Malibu? fuzzymoomoo
Until they kill it as well. Malibu is new enough it's probably going to be around for at least 5 more years until the get some kind of return on investment. Or maybe not because GM.
