A 3.0 EB or diesel in Navigator would be a welcome addition for this market by reducing the capacity tax.
tbone
If you can afford to buy a Navigator in China do you really think the capacity tax is an issue? I'm not being a smart ass it's a real question.
bzcat
Of course it is an issue. Rich people especially don't like paying taxes. Why do you think all the luxury brand downsized their V8 to 4.0 liter and limited the V6 or I6 to 3.0 liters? Because displacement taxes. Lincoln should sell a lot more Navigator in China if it has the right size engine. It could even start offering it as a regular retail vehicle rather than one requiring special orders. bzcat
BTW, sales report is very interesting. Did not realize how much Escort Ford is selling... Over 30% of Chang'an Ford volume. And the fact that Ford sold over 60k Isuzu knock-off licensed cab forward JMC trucks this year so far. Edit: Ecosport and Kuga sales are falling off a cliff... jpd80
I wonder if the ending of government incentives late last year is responsible for not only the declines in Ecosport and Kuga but also those occurring with Escort and Focus...The rise in Lincoln is also exciting as MKZ and Continental sales rise.. RichardJensen
That thing looks like the 2008-2011 Focus with a new front on it. Heh. You're not far off. It's the 2008-11 EU Focus with a new front end on it.
ANTAUS
Seems as a great review, he loved the driving feel, its quiet for its class, steering is great, platform seems taut and direct, it does everything great for his segmemt, he just didn't see much of the tech and some interior bits and infotainment issues were his only dig. I did find that power lock switch fir rear seat passengers kinda odd though, but seems like a solid product.
atomcat68
Heh. You're not far off. It's the 2008-11 EU Focus with a new front end on it. I knew it was based on it, I just thought they would do a little more to hide it than they did. I know I'm in the minority in this opinion, but I really liked that version of the Focus and it so depressing that they totally ruined that car's nameplate with this generation. I'd take that China Escort over the new Focus. So many people I know have that generation with 150,000-200,000 miles with few or no problems so it is unacceptable that the current generation can't seem to go 40,000 miles without needing a transmission rebuild. And that this problem went on so long while they did virtually nothing but band aid fixes that guarantee the very same problem will come back.
jpd80
Correct, Ford AP in Geelong developed the Escort using the 2nd genof C1 Focus (204-2011) gave it a 1.78" longer 105,78" wheelbase.and longer rear doors. to give rear passengers more legroom. It was a brilliant move that hit the spot with Chinese buyers.and lower cost for Ford. Weight is 1255 to1300 Kg, comes with 1.5 TiVCT I-4 and 5MT or 6AT, 0-100 kph =12.0 sec. The Escort was developed form the European C1 Focus , not the North American C170 Focus you guys had previously.. Exactly there is a reason there is a 3.0TT V6 in the Ford powertrain, just like the 1.5L T I4. Wonder if the 3.0LTT will turn up as the standard engine there. ANTAUS
Not sure if China has horsepower wars, but the 3.0L TTV6 would work fine with the Navigator and fall within their engine size taxation.

tbone
Whoops I forgot about the 3.0tt. Certainly would be better than 2.7, and already a Lincoln exclusive.

I think the sales decline is primarily due to aging products. Competition in China is intense and Ford has some very stale products in the line up. Heh. You're not far off. It's the 2008-11 EU Focus with a new front end on it. C1 Focus with twist beam rear suspension.
silvrsvt
I like the integrated Cell phone holder on the dash! Might be something interesting to add to the lower trim model Ecosport and Foci
jasonj80
I like the integrated Cell phone holder on the dash! Might be something interesting to add to the lower trim model Ecosport and Foci I don't think it would pass US or EU crash tests. They flip out about a knob sicking to far out of the dash let alone something sticking out of it.

That's precisely why there are no OEM cell phone mounts anywhere that has adopted either FMVSS, Euro-NACP or JNCAP.

But yet aftermarket is completely fine? I have a Cell Phone mount that uses the CD slot to mount to it.
bzcat
NHTSA and IIAS doesn't crash test vehicles with aftermarket equipment. Lots of things can stab you in the face in a crash... cell phone mount is just one of them.

LincolnLover
Navigator needs a V8..... Js..... Can't compete fully without a V8 option
Jqa1824
It doesn't need a V8. If a Turbo 6 makes as much or more power than a V8....the only reason you would care is if you only care about badging.
