SiriusXM availability on late model vehicles...?

Recommended Posts

So we love my wife's '13 Fusion, but my biggest gripe with it is that it's only equipped with Sirius capability unlike my XM-equipped Rainier, which means that I don't get as good a channel lineup in her car.

My question is this... has Ford started installing legitimate SiriusXM-equipped radios in its vehicles, and if so, when?

Specifically, the dedicated sports league play-by-play channels. I can get all of them (MLB, NFL, NBA, etc.) in the Rainier, but they're not available in the Fusion at all. All I can tune to are the channels named "Sports Play-By-Play," but their programming is much less predictable than I would prefer.

Also another thing that annoys me with Ford still using the legacy Sirius radios instead of the new SiriusXM radios is you can't get the 'online only' channels that are in the 300's. In my wife's Grand Cherokee you could get for example Red White and Booze on the radio, you cannot on any Ford I've owned (with the correct package of course).

On the current SiriusXM channel lineups Red White and Booze shows online only for Sirius, SiriusXM and XM channel lineups.

That is correct, but my wife's GC was able to receive it, I think it had a channel number of like 370 or something like that.

**Edit**

Its part of the Xtra Channels package, I think only the new SiriusXM receivers are able to receive those channels.

According to http://www.siriusxm.com/vehicleavailability Ford is still using Sirius only radios, GM is still using XM radios and Honda is using SiriusXM radios (only 3 I spotchecked).

I would presume it has everything to do with either cost savings for the radios themselves and/or long term pre-merger contracts.

In this case, I lay blame on each party. Ford for still using inferior Sirius radios, and SiriusXM for not duplicating their channel lineups across both Sirius and XM subscriptions.
