sullynd
http://money.cnn.com/2017/07/14/autos/ford-carbon-monoxide/index.html Some police say their Ford Motor SUV police cars are leaking exhaust fumes into their vehicles, causing officers to suffer from carbon monoxide poisoning. fuzzymoomoo
This has been somewhat of an known issue with D3 Explorers for a few years now. Ford has yet to be able to find the source and therefore a solution to the problem They advise against idling for long periods of time if possible. Obviously cops can't do that so departments are resorting to CO detectors in their equipment. They also advise against using the air recirculating system for long periods so fresh air can come in through the vents. Obviously tsbs about sealing and reprogram the HVAC system. I would think a solution would be just add an auxiliary fan to circulate air in the vehicle while extended idling. I would also worry about K9 units.

I have a cousin who owns a 2016 Explorer that got a letter in the mail with those suggestions on it.
Bob Rosadini
Well last week I caught the tale end of a news story about a local department with "issues". Then last night the NBC nightly news (Lester Holt) had a piece on it featuring San Antonio PD. One young cop out on disability has brought suit against Ford. Appears this is not going away and once the "disability" snake raises its head the legal profession will see a good opportunity- union support and a deep pocket NBC quoted Ford spokesman as saying "no problem". Exit32
I drive a 2016 Explorer Platinum with the 3.5 Ecoboost engine and have never experienced the exhaust-smell-in-the-cabin issue. I've heard it happens most under wide-open throttle operation. I've done that many times with my Explorer but never detected a trace of exhaust stink inside. You'd think this issue would affect all D3 Explorers, but I can tell you it doesn't.
