Ford CEO pushing speed to shake up automaker

But it's clear Hackett sees a company that is too slow in too many areas. That's one reason why Hackett is pushing the idea of a "shot clock" to force executives to make decisions quicker, much as a basketball team must try to score before the shot clock goes off, or it turns over the ball.

"Mr. Hackett acknowledged that past slow decision-making — sometimes caused by confusion over 'who is in charge' within newer efforts — has been an issue at Ford," said Citi analyst Itay Michaeli.

Can't say I disagree, but being a fast follower has been Ford's modus operandi for the past 30+ years

You're right

But I was being 100% selfish. I'm tired of building cars that don't sell, I'm tired of the rumors, and I don't think my Focus will last until summer 2019....

Oh i wasn't saying I disagree with you.....I completely understand where you're coming from, and I agree with you, if possible, Ranger/Bronco (and Focus changeover/China production) should be accelerated. I was just pointing out that it seems like just about all of their product programs not named F-series or Expy/Navi need to be accelerated.

I wonder if Hackett's focus is all about the trendy tech stuff and less about getting operations quicker product cycles.

(I'm an ideas man, don't bother me with details..)

Probably a little bit of both. If you ignore the trendy tech stuff you basically ignore investors and shareholders, signalling you are falling behind. Quicker product cycles are win for everyone except the bean counters.

It depends how much change you guys are insisting on versus what most buyers in a segment expect.

For example, the Explorer just keeps on going with over 21K sales last month plus close on 3K PIU.

How would you be if you're a GM buyer, seeing new Cruze and Malibu sales tank so badly,

new product is no safety net when buyers are moving to other segments.

i wouldn't worry about your 2008 Focus. I have one with 150K miles that runs like it will get another 150K.

I've replaced so much on it (some things multiple times in the last year) that it's enough to make me worry. In the last year I've put so much into it I could have bought a whole new car if I weren't so far under water with it

I'm the warning against 72+ month loans....

If CD6 is still alive and kicking I still expect to see a CD6 based performance sedan to replace Taurus and PI with a CD6 Explorer replacing D3 Explorer and PIU.

Embarrassed to ask this question at this late date but what is the CD 6 platform? My SHO? And .."replacing D3 Explorer and PIU", I thought Explorer and Taurus were a common platform today??

It's a rumored modular platform reportedly able to be made into FWD/RWD/AWD that is rumored to underpin the next-gen Fusion, MKZ, Explorer, Aviator, Mustang, Continental, Lincoln coupe, etc

If the SHO goes away, the Fusion Sport is a fine replacement for it.

IMO I have a feeling the CD6 is going to be another GRDW...something talked about for years but never comes to fruition.

So the question to ask is, it's eminent that Ford will drop one, maybe 2 sedan products, which would they be....?

I would say the Focus for one. People have lost confidence it it due to the transmission issues. There are 2 in my household, 13 & 15. Both have had problems, especially the 13. I hate to see the Taurus go. That would leave them with no full sized car. Sales are actually up, so it's not totally dead.

They're not going to drop Focus because of that. It still sells, even with its image tarnished by those problems.

Fiesta sedan would be the other to go if 2 of them left. It could become hatch only. Does anywhere but here even sell the Fiesta sedan?
