BEV Transit in Germany

Recommended Posts

Ford won a contract to build 2500 Transits with electric drivetrains. Although this sounds like the Focus Electric build from Magna, I wonder if perhaps Ford could do more with this on the continent:

Ford has won an important contract to further electrify Deutsche Post’s fleet of delivery vehicles.

Deutsche Post has already been deploying electric vehicles in its fleet, but this new contract should quickly add 2,500 all-electric vans on the roads.

They will use the chassis of the Ford Transit, which will be equipped with a new battery-electric powertrain.

Ford had already announced plans for a plug-in hybrid version of the Ford Transit for 2019, but it looks like this new contract is changing the plan by using an all-electric version built on the same chassis.

Production is set to start next month and expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

Listen to this "Autoline Daily." Go to the 6'50" mark. The opening story is worth a listen too.

I was LOLing at the comments there...

Though this has been bothering me for a while...Fields was one of the first people to embrace the changes that Mullally was doing to Ford...but yet once he got the position, it seemed like they regressed again into "Old Ford" quickly. Makes you wonder.

Either he was trying to maximize short term results to make himself look better or get more compensation or he allowed his direct reports to do that.

Why would you cut back on new products when you're making close to $10B/yr and you have $27B in cash? Poor business decisions any way you look at it.

I'm sure someone will write a book about it pretty soon.....

An expected downturn that didn't fully materialize (yet)?

I'm starting to wonder if that is going to happen. Seems like the gloom and doom about the economy starting to tank when poof after Trump came into office...the Stock Market is at all time highs...unemployee is low.

The Auto market is going to start to shrink since we are at the height of the market now...but how far is the real question...I think it might have been much deeper if Hillary got elected...maybe maybe not.
