Ecosport for sale already??

Recommended Posts

I think this is the first volume imported vehicle from India to be sold in the US.

Not sure how the logistic works but it must take at least 90 days to reach US dealers from India. So working backwards from a Jan or Feb 2018 on sale date, I'm guessing the factory in India is just starting test builds for US spec. Production will probably start in July or August, and the first ship will probably sail in September.

I heard a report on Rural Radio over the weekend about the rep for the Washington apple growers and his efforts to get Washington apples into the Indian market. I'm pretty sure he said it took 30 days in transit from the US to India (could've been 45 days), and I'd guess the opposite trip wouldn't take that much longer.

30 days on a ship. The rule of thumb is same amount of time on the ship on each end before and after ocean shipping. So that Washington apple takes minimum of 90 days from being plucked to getting to a retailer in India, minimum.

Also, apples go in standard shipping shipping containers, which are easy to come by, and ripens on route. Cars do not assemble itself after it leaves the factor and are shipped in roll-on roll-off ships which all have scheduled routes. There are no direct roll-on roll-off ship from India to US so most likely Ford is using the same ship that is taking the EcoSport to Europe to bring them to the US. So the ocean shipping time is going to be longer than 30 days vs. a container ship that may be going directly from US West Coast to India.

Ford's factory in India is located inland of Chennai so the cars has to be trucked to a port. That's easily 30 days of logistic to move enough cars from the factory to the port and complete all paperworks and wait for the ship.

Once the car reaches US port, it will take anywhere between 7 to 10 days to unload and clear custom, and another 2 weeks to reach a regional distribution center. And from there, it will take anywhere between a day or a month to reach a US dealer.

If you want to know, for example, it takes up to 60 days to get a BMW from Germany to a customer located on US East Coast, and up to 90 days to reach a US West Coast customer. And that's from Germany... a country with awesome inland transportation, and famous for logistical precision and industrial efficiency. I don't think you can ship a car to the US from India faster than from Germany.

Heck, it took a month for my truck produced at KTP to be delivered to central MO (after it was produced and ready for shipment)! 90 days from India seems super fast.

Would suck to order one and have to wait that long.

Oddly enough it only took 48 hours or so to ship my SHO from Chicago to Maryland via train! Thats faster then most parcel services with an object that weighs a few tons.

Oh yeah, the delivery from KTP to the rail yard 90 miles away from me only took a couple days. It was almost two weeks from the time it got to the rail yard until it was at my dealer. 90 miles. 2 weeks. Ridiculous!

I wonder how long it would take when I finally order my Ranger since I live 30 minutes from MAP.

Minimum 3 weeks after it's built. It will have to get on a train to go to Chicago, then by truck to MO, then back on a train to Detroit, then trucked to your dealer. A guy I know lives two hours from KTP and his Super Duty took a similar journey.

:glare: that would be dumb but wouldn't shock me. It would be nice if I could drive it off of the CAL line myself...

You would think Ford would offer that for employees at least.

Actually funny story time...

My dad ordered his 1986 Escort GT from a dealership the next town over from where I grew up at. He worked at the plant in Edison (about 45 minutes away) and requested the car to be built there and has photos of it being built on the line (was following it by the VIN in the evenings (he worked overnights)). The car was built in and in the holding lot. He talked to someone and they got it put on a new car carrier to the dealership. He gave the sales person a call saying it would be there in a couple hours and the guy was like you're joking with me....then he called my father up later that afternoon telling him the car was there waiting to get prepped so he could take it home.

Dealers used to be able to pick vehicles up at the plant, that is not the case anymore. Local units are usually shipped by truck to the dealer. However if there are build issues that need to be fixed they may be rail shipped offsite to a repair facility where the fix will be applied then shipped back.

Just think when you buy a Focus from Demmer or Mustang from Crest that are across the street from the plants and you pay the same destination as everyone else.

My Focus was at the dealership the day after it was built. Built late on Tuesday night, at the dealer the next afternoon.

My salesperson did his best to try to surprise me with updates, but I always knew before him.

With Eco Sport coming, shows that there was no reason to build a whole new plant in MEX dedicated to build Focuses. Sedan sales are way down, Eco Sport will take many entry level buyers. So, use existing Fusion plant for flex production. Wont ever see Focus as "#1 selling product" as ex-poster B***er16 wanted.

Rather see fewer, not dumped into fleets, and heavy discounts for better resale.

Let's hope that the Indians ge those Ecosports to America quicker than the

Americans send Mustangs to Australia 9-12 month wait is truly dreadful.

For any of you not sure how big the Ecosport is, the body is around 10"

shorter in comparison to the Chevrolet Trax.

They do but the Ecosport is a lot smaller next to them (10" shorter without the spare).

Gotta admit though, the new front does look much better.

2017-Ford-Ecosport-facelift-front-three-

Eh. I really liked the front of the last EcoSport. I think it would have made it stand out from the other tiny cuvs.
