Meaning less impact for occupants? So this airbag is between the vehicle and the road/ground/whatever its hitting? I don't know...

Though really if you're wearing your seat belts you're usually fine in rollover. Biggest concern is ejection.
akirby
I believe so. Though really if you're wearing your seat belts you're usually fine in rollover. Biggest concern is ejection. It is so irritating when news reports a fatal accident where a suv rolled over. They mention the rollover and usually say "speed was a factor" even when it wasn't, then they neglect to mention that the people died because they were ejected because they weren't wearing their seatbelts. I don't suppose this would somehow keep people inside the vehicle/from ejecting (they'd hit this airbag outside the window), would it? Oh no - I was just making a side note based on blazerdude's comment.

NLPRacing
Maybe this is for the upcoming Bronco...
SoonerLS
Maybe this is for the upcoming Bronco... That was my first thought when I read the title. The vehicle in the drawing looks like an Explorer (yeah, yeah, generic vehicle, blah, blah, blah), and it certainly could have applications in CUVs, but if the Bronco is as much of a hard offroader as it's supposed to be, that would be the natural place to implement it. The short wheelbase and high center of gravity that come with that sort of vehicle make it far more susceptible to rollovers than are softroaders. probowler
The roof.... Seriously? I have a whole entire airbag in my Bronco that I never use, and now they wanna nickel and dime us with this? Too far Ford too far!
coupe3w
What? You guys miss the point they are flotation devices for that water landing. Then they block the doors so you can't get out. Brilliant!! Edited April 27, 2017 by coupe3w
