Kuga had very similar evolutionary change during the same period as well. BON favorite whipping boy Toyota Camry received the same treatment as well... keeping the same greenhouse for 3 generations. Other examples: MK1 Escape vs. MK2 Escape. Ford kept the same side windows from Mk1 to Mk2. Some people still think it was just a heavy facelift despite the two not sharing any exterior sheet metal or interior, not to mention all new drivetrain. Or the Mk3 Taurus vs. Mk4 Taurus. In that case, Ford did keep the same Mk3 front wind shield and side windows, and borrowed the Mk3 Sable rear wind shield for Mk4 Taurus. Or Mk2 Expedition vs. Mk3 Expedition. Completely new frame but evidently same body shell... Ford didn't even bother changing the sheet metal that time. Just bumpers and fascia.
