Mustangtiger
About to take delivery of a 5.0 Mustang GT, and understand that premium gas is best for best performance, but that the car will run ok on regular gas, yes? Can I alternate tanks of regular versus premium, or if I run one or the other, will it hurt the engine to go back and forth? Maybe I should use the mid range octane as a compromise? Anybody know about this?
fuzzymoomoo
You can alternate premium vs. regular any time, just make sure your tank is empty when you switch. It won't do any damage switching but you may notice the engine's performance change a little bit with the grade of fuel used.

Mustangtiger
What's the issue with needing to make sure the tank is empty? Wouldn't the two grades mix together and simply make a mid rang octane ?

I've heard of it messing with the timing and making the engine run rough since the computer has a hard time telling exactly what the octane is when they're blended like that. twintornados
I've heard.... . I've heard that you cannot mix synthetic and regular oil I've heard you must change the oil every 3,000 miles I've heard you cannot cross rotate radial tires I've heard...... fuzzymoomoo
Well I mean geez, I've never done it myself. I drive a Focus for crisps sake. And when I'm not driving that Focus I'm driving a different, newer Focus. No need for me to even consider that.... OX1
My 14 GT drives the same with regular vs premium and no you don't have to empty tamk when you switch. Only 7 Hp difference on dyno with premium. I do use premium exclusively in hotter months for extra insurance against knock.
mettech
I don't even mix air in my tires from a different gas station. I only use Shell or BP air. I heard that Shell air is the same air they use in IndyCar.
