99 Expedition blow out

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if they've had an experience like mine and what the problem is. As of yesterday while driving on the freeway, I thought I had a blow out. There was a tire noise and then started hard pulling to the right, I noticed the steering was very loose. There was also a weird noise and a very noticeable vibration under my feet. As I start to pull over it stopped which is how I knew it wasn't a blow out. I kept going and a minute later it did this again. I made it to work, when I drove home which is 30 miles away no problem. Today I drove it 20 min and then it did it again, and still had to drive to work. Was nervous about going but had no choice. No further incident on the way. I'm wondering if something is about to break down there. I don't have the money to get it looked at which is why I'm posting. Thank you

Sounds like a brake caliper has stuck. From your description I would say a right side caliper. Looking through the wheel the rotor on one side will be blue from excessive heat. Plus, most the time that wheel will be black from brake dust. When it does it, see if one wheel is hotter than the other. Another option is to jack up the front wheels and see if one is much harder to turn by hand than the other.

After I posted this I realized that a couple of days before this started, I replaced my back tires. They were to the point I was going to have a blow out and my dad gave me 2 tires that are pretty new. So now I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the issue. My truck is 4x4, AWD and on the front I have 265/r17's and the tires my dad gave me are 285/r17. I asked discount tire if they would work on my truck and he said they would. Someone mentioned to me that because of the 4x4 all 4 tires are supposed to be the same size. What will happen if I drive it with these tires on? I've been searching online for an answer and I can't find any info on it

Ok, I'll have to get them checked out, I apologise and not to say I don't believe you, it's hard to believe the brakes can cause that kind of reaction while driving. Also I've noticed that as long as I keep my speed at 65 or below it doesn't do it, it's when I go 75-80 mph that it starts doing it. I really appreciate your time in answering my post, I didn't think anyone would respond

I know it's weird, like that said once I hit about 75 and keep it steady all of a sudden it feels like I blow out a tire with a strong vibration and like a rubbing noise, I would say grinding but I'm not sure that would be an accurate description. The hard pulling comes at that point. I thought I blew my tire for sure until when I went to pull over and hit the brakes it just stopped

Stay safe my friend and drive cautiously. When you get enough cash, have it looked at. Until then I would drive like a grandma. Having a mechanical catastrophe when going highways speeds usually doesn't end well.

I have dealt with 2 blowouts at high speeds, lost my brakes, and had the hood blow up on me on the expressway. I am not sure how, but other than scraping up my mirror and shaking me up, nothing bad happened. I too had limited funds and maintained my car on a mostly non existent budget at times.

Something you can do to determine if the 4x4 system is the problem is to disconnect the connector at the transfer case. It's a square black connector close to shift motor. It will disable the AWD. The 4x4 lights will flash but you can see if that takes care of the problem.
