Ford Motor Co. Announces Investment in 3 Michigan Plants

Ford Motor Co. is set to announce new investments in three plants in Michigan, reports reveal. The carmaker will reportedly invest a “significant amount” in assembly plants in Wayne, Flat Rock, and its Romeo Engine Plant, according to The Detroit News.

The latest news of the carmaker’s U.S. expansion comes only two months after the company announced it was investing up to $700 million in its Michigan facilities.

In February, Ford CEO Mark Fields said his company’s decision to create jobs in America rather than in Mexico is a “vote of confidence” in Trump’s incoming administration and the pro-business environment it will create.

The company is expected to make a full announcement on Tuesday, March 28.

Ford is not alone in re-investing in the U.S.

Also in January, General Motors announced plans to re-invest in factories in the U.S.A. and to add some 1,500 or more jobs to its labor force. The plans will include a one-billion-dollar plan to build new manufacturing lines in the U.S.

Other carmakers, such as Toyota and Fiat, also plan to invest in America.

The automakers have joined a growing list of companies announcing major expansion in the age of Trump. The list includes 45,000 jobs announced by Exxon Mobil, 10,000 new jobs at Kroger, 10,000 jobs at Walmart, another 10,000 jobs to be offered by U.S. Steel, and 50,000 by SoftBank Telecommunications, among many others...

I don't know about the accuracy of all these statements but as to Ford, this Breitbart.com article confirms how facts have little to do with what they report. This is almost as pathetic as Trump taking credit for Ford's investments stemming out of the 2015 contract negotiations with the union. .

Sorry troll. Straight from the CEO's mouth:

The announcement means Ford will "cancel its plans to build a new plant in Mexico" and will instead invest $700 million in Michigan—creating 700 new jobs here in the United States—CNN reports.

“We didn’t cut a deal with Trump. We did it for our business,” Fields told CNN, noting that his company had conversations on Tuesday with Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence. Trump and Pence will officially be sworn in on Jan. 20.

Fields said his company’s decision to create jobs in America rather than in Mexico is a “vote of confidence” in "Trump’s incoming administration" and the "pro-business environment it will create."

Obama would have been giving some blathering speech about climate change right about now and how we need to invest in the 3rd world so we can achieve social/climate/economic justice. Trump is the best thing to happen to this country in 40 years.

#Keep winning.

Troll? Funny. And your Cut and Paste from a January 3, 2017 Brietbart article only serves as another example of how facts don't matter to Brietbart. Scary how often lines from that article have been repeated and reposted on the internet (based on a quick google search)

Here is a more accurate explanation

http://thehill.com/policy/transportation/326054-trump-touts-big-announcement-from-ford

The newspaper noted that a 2015 contract between Ford and the United Auto Workers included a $700 million investment at the Michigan Assembly Plant, a $400 million investment for Flat Rock and a $150 million investment at the Romeo Engine plant.

Ford later announced that it will invest $850 million in the Michigan Assembly Plant, $150 million in the Romeo Engine Plant and $200 million in a data center, CNBC reported, adding that 130 jobs would be created or retained at the Romeo facility.

Don't they build the 6.2 V8 at Romeo?

Could it be that the 3.0 V6 PowerStroke going there?

According to the Ford site linked by silvrsvt you are correct about the 6.2L. Most of the other engines listed are no longer is use, I think. Fuzzy also stated that the 5.2L FPC engine is also built at Romeo, I assume on their niche line in place of the 5.8L Trinity although I think the PTWA spray bore process for the 5.2 is done at Essex. Romeo used to do machining for the 4.6L that was also assembled there, correct? What happened to that line, was it converted to 6.2L machining?

The 3.0L Lion diesel is currently built at Dagenham, correct? Where else is that engine currently used besides Land Rover? How much longer will Ford be their diesel engine supplier? Would Dagenham build the 3.0L Powerstroke version for the F-150 or, as you suggest, could that engine be built at Romeo? Could it be partially assembled at Dagenham and finished for NA use at Romeo?

Some articles suggest the Romeo investment is also related to the Ranger/Bronco. Unless those vehicles are going to use the same 3.0L diesel as the F-150 what other engine(s) are they planning for those vehicles? The 3.2L five cylinder Powerstroke diesel in the Transit is currently built in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, correct? If they plan to use it in the NA Ranger could it be moved to Romeo?

The fact remains that right after the election Ford cancelled the new factory in Mexico where the foundations had already been poured.

I'm 90% sure that had more to do with the projected further decline in sedan sales than in any political factors.
