Trans Blew on Wife's Chrysler Minivan, We Replaced It

I was gonna break your chops over "letting" her buy a non-Ford product, but then I looked out in our garage and saw the girlfriends Subaru Forester and thought, "ehhh, never mind."

I can't complain. She got what she wanted, I'd never want someone telling me what to buy. I was subtlety steering her towards the Explorer, which she DID like....but in the end she got what worked best for her.

I can judge both of you with righteous indignation...

I look into my driveway and see a 2013 Fusion, a 2013 Mustang, and a 2004 F-250. ;)

2013 Fusion, 2016 MKX and a 2014 Escape (when daughter visits).

The only non-Ford products we've owned were Honda/Acuras (81 accord, 87 Integra, 88 Civic sedan, 90 Accord).

My next and probably only other non-Ford purchase will likely be a 2013+ Guards Red Porsche Boxster S.

I tried getting my wife to look at the MKX, but she really wanted to keep the third row. She REALLY liked the way it looked though.

Through the years I've owned more Ford products than any other type. I've got a list somewhere in a thread of all of them. I'll dig it out....but there's well over 20. But lately I'll buy pretty much anything if it fits the needs (unless it is FCA, I have given up on them...with the exception of a Wrangler. I will get one unless the Bronco sways me.)

OK, now you are going to make me find the list (not all new, so not as impressive as your guy's lists)

  • 78 Mustang II

  • 76 Maverick (to this day, one of my favorite cars)

  • 79 Mustang Cobra (Turbo) Ugh...those horrible TRX wheels

  • 81 Mustang

  • 83 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe (loved this car)

  • 86 Ford Escort GT

  • 88 Mustang Notchback

  • 91 Probe

  • 91 Escort (one of the first owned...everyone kept asking me what it was!)

  • 88 F-150 (4.9 I6)

  • 94 F-150 XLT Supercab 5.8L

  • 92 Ford Rangler Supercab

  • 65 Mustang Grande

  • 97 Thunderbird (my 2nd bird...loved this car too)

There's probably just as many non-Ford cars to add to the list as well and a few motorcycles. Edited by Anthony

Come to think of it...except 2 VW Beetles (real Beetles), a 72 Firebird Formula, and 1 Chebbie truck; all we've ever owned were Fords (new & used).

I don't "push" my wife. She makes her own choices with what she drives. She tends to lean to FoMoCo. I've taken her to mega dealers and she has driven every brand they sell that interested her. She always drifts back to the Fords. We've been pretty lucky over the years, The 1998 F-150 had the tranny replaced under warranty; but that is the only issue we've ever had. We did almost buy an Oldsmobile in 2000 though because she hated the 96-00 Taurus so bad.

Lord have mercy...not sure I can remember all the cars I've owned over my lifetime. I started with a 54 Chevy truck when I was 12 years old. I had owned over 45 cars & trucks before my 19th birthday. My dad used to ask me if I could try to come home in the same vehicle I left in. I did one night...and had over $500 in cash from the trading I had done.

I didn't list our first cars - I had a 75 olds cutlass - baby blue with velour interior and a white vinyl top with wire basket wheels and whitewalls. Quite the pimp mobile until it rusted out and they stole the wire baskets. That car was nothing but trouble but it got me through college. Wife had a 81 Escort.

Didn't know you were a Torino fan. I've got a hot rodded 72 GTS (it's in my shop, 15 miles away). I had a family member that had a 75 Elite. About one of the best mid 70's cars, IMO.

Since I haven't commented yet, congrats Anthony. We actually looked at a Traverse with my mother-in-law right after the last MCE. It was a fine vehicle, though I much preferred the looks of its siblings. The hangup for me was GM's "black tie" switchgear. I just couldn't stomach it.

Now, as for the "roster" for my wife and I...

96 Contour GL (arctic white), my first car

00 Focus ZTS sedan (rainforest green)

00 Expedition Eddie Bauer (black), the only benefit of my dad skipping out on us.. I got the car.

01 Focus ZX3 (jackpot gold)

03 Mazda Tribute (deep red)

04 Mustang coupe (competition orange)

06 Mustang Coupe (legend lime)

06 Explorer (liquid black)

08 Mustang Warriors in Pink convertible (black and pink) (wife's, obviously)

08 Focus, vermillion red

62 Falcon, white and dove gray

10 Escape, sterling gray

08 Fusion SEL Sport, Redfire

Oh... very nice...VERY nice. Which engine?

.

351 Windsor....I have had the big, body on frame Torinos in almost every shape and size (except a wagon) since my youth....my first "nice" car was a 1976 Torino in Dark Brown metallic with a tan vinyl roof...of course being 19 at the time, I promptly totaled it six months after buying it.

Currently have:

'95 F250 4.9L ZF-5

'00 Excursion 6.8L 4R100

'01 Ranger 2.5L M5OD

'05 Lincoln LS 3.0L 5R55S

'11 Ranger 2.3L M5OD

I keep thinking it's a shame I don't have any V8s. I should add one.

Curious why you didn't get the 3.9L V8 in your LS? That was a sweet engine. Not much power compared to today's vehicles - my 2.0EB Fusion has more power - but smooth as silk.

I highly recommend the Coyote 5.0L. My GT has a few upgrades but still gets good mileage and has a BUNCH of power.

3.0 was just what we found a deal on. The v8 would have been nice but even the 3.0 has enough power and then some.

Also I should add that the 01 Ranger is currently undergoing a 2.3 (old cast iron sohc motor) turbo swap. Ported head, forged bottom end and 20 psi boost and it should best the V10 for most powerful in my fleet when it's done.
