Trailhiker
OK, I have to admit I am carrying a good 30 lbs of useless fat on my frame. Now, since vehicles shed weight for performance gains (using carbon fiber or aluminum, etc.), does the vehicle weight effect the performance with the same ratio as driver weight? If I lose 30 lbs. would my vehiclle see the difference in performance as much as if the vehicle itself reduced the weight by 30 lbs. ? akirby
Of course. Same as fuel - you'll be faster with 1/4 tank than a full tank. But you're probably talking tenths or hundredths of a second and definitely not something you'd notice in normal driving.
Anthony
We've been using my Focus this past weekend to cart around my family since our minivan died. I can tell a HUGE difference with my wife and two kids in the car. It feels super sluggish compared to when it is just me. Lawyer's Note: My wife is beautiful and is perfect in every way and the sluggishness of the vehicle is in no way related to her size which is perfect and she is perfect.
30 OTT 6
I've read that you gain the equivalent of 1 hp per every 10 lbs lost. And losing 100 lbs. will gain 0.1 s in the 1/4 mile. I wonder if any racers ever got caught with helium storage devices on their car?
