jpd80
Hi all, In the light of the cancellation of San Louis Potosi and declining Focus sales at MAP, is there a possibility that Ford will end production of Focusat MAP and switch that production to Hermosillo earlier than planned? If there's no massive plant needed in Mexico, perhaps Ford can start changing things earlier and get products back on track and made in the right place. Setting the line up for Focus shouldn't be too difficult, especially when it has similar build sequence and is more like incremental production... The only issue I have is staff and continuing work at MAP between now and launch of Ranger.... Could some workers be retained for say C-Max production while others are transferred temporarily to other plants until Ranger production begins? fuzzymoomoo
We at MAP have been told nothing, and I expect that to continue until Ranger production begins. That's just the way the company works for whatever reason. There's a weird rumor that popped up a few days ago I just heard in the employee forum here yesterday that apparently we may be only building C-Maxes after December because of suppliers. We also got a large (around 20k) fleet order of C-Maxes for China so as of now all of our TLO weeks after 3/20 are cancelled. As for temporary assignments during the long retooling layoff, I don't know. They might. They did for DTP during the aluminum switch so I don't see why they can't do it for us, I'm just not sure if they will or not.
jpd80
Thanks Fuzzy, if that rumor is true regarding only building C-Max after December, then that would add weight to the possibility that Focus might be coming from elsewhere..... Ford Focus production starts in Harbin Assembly Plant https://www.at.ford.com/en/homepage/news-and-clipsheet/news/2017/2/ford-focus-production-starts-in-harbin-assembly-plant.html I'm pretty sure that's production for the local market, not for ROW. 630land
Will the 2018 Focus be a short run, as the '11 and '04 MY? Will the 2019 be mid year intro as the '12 and '05?
fuzzymoomoo
Will the 2018 Focus be a short run, as the '11 and '04 MY? Will the 2019 be mid year intro as the '12 and '05? Don't know yet. Production timing for MY2018 hasn't been determined yet. When I was forcibly brought back to MAP in June of last year the union told us the production forecast was 250k units. I haven't heard anything since then but I get the impression the market has dictated that number to get smaller. That 20k C-Max order for China has thrown a wrench into the plan.
