New Ford in the Family

Recommended Posts

My wife and I where talking about replacing her 2010 Escape XLT later this year...but after seeing a couple rebates pop up along with my dad's plan pricing, we decided to do it sooner then later since she had 157K on her old Escape already and didn't want to get caught with our shorts down with a major repair. We took it in the shorts in the trade-in though.. only $2500 when I saw anywhere from 5-7K in the past 16 months on online sites.

Here is a photo of the new 2017 Escape SE (just about loaded minus the sunroof) and her old 2010 Escape XLT.

Congrats! She's a beaut.

We just got my mom a new '17 Titanium in White Gold, after an "inexperienced driver" smashed into the side of her 2012.

Our 2010 just hit 125,000 trouble-free miles, but I expect we'll finally be ready upgrade sometime this summer. Now that my wife is back in school full time, our budgeting priorities have changed just a bit... ;)

Only "major" problems we had was the capless fuel sensor failing about 5 years ago (common) and the water pump went on it about 2 years ago...we where on the way back from VA to MD (where we lived at the time) and had to limp it back...a 2-3 hour drive turned into a 5 hour one! The car doesn't owe us anything and my wife was slightly sad to see it go...but I have a feeling she'll love the new one just as much.

I'm really impressed with the Sync 3 on it from my limited playing around with it...so much more responsive than MFT. The GUI is kinda ugly vs MFT though, IMO.

The new Escape is alot more refined then the last gen model too...lots more sound deadening and my wife had to get used the steering being much more sharper.

I happened to sit in a new Mustang yesterday while the paperwork was getting done...they had a nice loaded Ecoboost in the show room. I cracked up that the interior felt exactly the same as my 2006 (well seating position) but everything else was huge improvement...it seems like the new dash is quite a bit smaller then old dash and materials a worlds better..the door felt alot more "solid" sounding then mine too. Only complaint I have is for some reason the surround around the touch screen seemed kinda "cheap"

White Platinum Tri-Coat. It's pearlescent and glows under certain lighting. It's a great color if you like white.

Thanks.

I saw this color for the first time on a friend's 2013 Fusion and I am amazed at how classy it looks.

As I mentioned above there is a 2016 Fiesta hatchback on a dealer lot with that color and it looks

fantastic.. I am always in the market for a toy and that Fiesta is really tempting me.

I don't typically like white but this one is especially nice.

I still have my white, 2000 Cougar - yeah, I haven't had the heart to get rid of it yet - but I think the Cougar looks

good in white, although it is not pearlescent white. That generation Cougar looks bad in dark colors in my opinion.

Maybe because darker shades make it look smaller? White and silver make that generation Cougar look rather nice.

Let me tell you. I'm in a new Malibu rental for a few days while the Fusion gets some much-deserved attention, and this thing is awful. It's a mid-level LT, and the only redeeming quality of the dash and door panels is the fabric, which seems to be holding things together. Worse than that, the hesitation and shudder from the engine restarting at every stop shatters any confidence of the damn thing actually moving when you tell it to.

The shudder of the start/stop was a big complaint I had with the previous generation one my wife had when her G5 was in the shop for the 2466323680096311 recalls. It made her motion sickness act up when she was driving it. Her Driving NEVER makes it act up.

I drove a pre-recall 2013 Focus rental when our Escape had the steering rack rebuilt under recall, and while the Focus shuddered, it was nothing like this Malibu. There's so much hesitation I don't see how it isn't a safety issue.

I'd take it back, but it's not worth the hassle. I already had to swap their first attempt, a '17 Rogue SV, for reeking of smoke if it sat for more than an hour.

Nice looking Escape.

Is that the white metallic paint? I am unable to tell from the photo.

I think that color makes the Fusion look superb. Now a local dealer has a 16 Fiesta in that color

And I am tempted because it looks so good.

Yes its the White Platinum, my wife normally likes blues and greens (wants a hunter green CUV so bad...maybe next time) and when she saw this white on the Escape she really like it. I can wait to detail it myself to see how much I can get the metallic to pop on it.

The other funny story about her is with Black wheels...I've shown her a GT350 and other cars that have dark colored rims and I even plastidipped my Mustang wheels (they where getting white flecks in them for some reason) and she really didn't like them. Fast-forward to looking at Escapes..she wanted a cheaper car payment (I was leaning towards the Ti model) and they had a couple sport package Escapes on the lot, including one in Platinum white with black wheels (but a light interior which was a no go)...then she completely changes her tune and says she likes the dark colored wheels! sigh...we winded up just getting the regular wheels on her SE, which look fine.

My parents have a 2013 Escape Ti and my dad was bitching about how much the 19in tires cost to replace on it. I guess its an oddball size, since my 20inch high Performance All season tires on my SHO where cheaper then the 19 inch tires found on the Escape!

Yes, 19" tires are ridiculously expensive to replace! It cost more for the 19" tires on the Flex than it cost for big azz 10-ply 20" all terrain tires for my Super Duty. My 20" have likely twice as much rubber in them. Crazy!

They aren't any more expensive than 17s or 18s low profile tires now. Escapes and Fusions and Edges have had 19s for several years now. Truck tires are different.

It all depends on the make, model and sizes.

I recently rented an F-150 XLT that had start-stop. I came to a stop and go "Dang, this is quiet", look down at the tach and see it at zero. Lifted my foot off the brake, and the engine smoothly restarted. I was impressed.

I've driven a few other vehicles with start-stop, and for the most part I've been impressed. In this Malibu, however, it's rough... Especially considering it's practically brand new and an all-new model.

I was given a 2015 Edge loaner a few months back. At the first light I thought it died and tried to restart it. Then I realized it was auto start/stop. It was quite smooth but I didn't like it at all. I'm sure I could get used to it though.

Right, but to charge $50 bucks more a tire that is an inch larger is a bit insane. The rest of the 19 inch tires are a pretty spendy also vs say 20 inch tires.
