'19 Ranger Spied Testing

Recommended Posts

I don't know, I'm with Pioneer here. I don't see any break to show the bed is separate. If it is not unibody, then they did a mighty fine job on camo.

Well I have to say after all these unibody comments I went back for a second look-must agree does look like it is one continuous side panel. However, wasn't it stated in one of the press releases that it was .."rugged BOF etc etc?

It looks identical to the trucks that where photographed in Australia

The ones that were on the shipping pallets right? Went back to those pix and for sure my poor eyes don't detect a gap between bed and cab. Go back to the new Ranger website. I was disappointed because there was no mention of any commercial use. Sad to say, perhaps it WILL be another Ridgeline-sad to say.

My 04 FX4 is looking better all the time.

DOP

DOP?

Taken in context, it's entirely possible that the crewcab version may be like the old early '60s "unibody" F-100s (bonded cab and bed on top of a frame). There's not very much space between the rear wheel well and the cab, so they may not have enough space for a traditional cab/bed structure, and it's not like a bed that short is giving you a lot of space for a useful replacement. Maybe supercab/regular cab variants would have a more traditional cab/bed structure...

It was difficult to find images of the current ROW Ranger without running boards, but these are what I found:

You can see the frame rail (or DOP pinch weld, whatever you want to call it) extends down the entire side on crew cab models, which also do indeed have a separate bed. Though at first glance it may appear to be different/unibody, I'm in the 'they just covered up the gap with camo' camp.

Here's a side view of the current Wildtrak. With the way the cab and bed align it would not be that difficult to lay a camo wrap across that gap. Not cutting it is one less step in the process plus it confuses guys like us.

I agree....some photos

Zoomed in you can see how the camo makes it really difficult to tell what is under it...it appears to bulge out visually

Here a spy shot from a 2015 Ranger

Wouldn't be hard to hide the gap with piece of camo over the top it.
