Dlcorbett
after the unveiling or leaked vids i should say, ill admit, i was underwhelmed. but after reading some details and seeimg some pics i must im happy and looking forward to owning one of these rigs. i thought itd be fun to give yall my impressions and invite ur opinions as well. here are some of my thoughts and impressions for the expy: 1. the expy itself is quite a looker in most angles, but i find myself enamoured by the max edition. the lwb version looks better proportioned than the swb. theres a perfect blend btw modern crossover svelte, and butchy truck machoness, but the blue doesnt do it any favors. speaking of, certain colors make the desgin features pop(red, white) while others make it look kinda dowdy (gray, blue).i like the blofe colored auto run boards with chrome trim, chrome mirror caps, the headlight design and the little airdam underneath the grill. 2. i still think the f150 dash is a bit dated and out of place in it, but the interior was very well done. from the cup holders, the space utilization to seat design and features, im impressed by how modern and family friendly they got the interior, its almost minivan like, and might i say almost foreign in feel. i also believe the platinum will have a piano black finish to the dash trim instead of the plastic trim on lower models. 3. there may be an additional engine option, but i think the platinum model will have a different tune than the others. looking at the site, if you click on the lone pic of the limited model, the engine specs are listed as "standard" and mirrors the current engine specs. probably not raptor tuned but maybe current f150 tune while the std option is the current emgines tune. 4. I hope most of the safety features added are standard to prevent the price from being unreachable. its these features that prevent the current truck from being a safety pick+, so hopefully most of these are bundled in with the lower spec models. speaking of features, theres soooo many. 5. though its been unveiled, the details of it are particularly light, which makes me believe theres some other version of this truck to be revealed, whether a powertrain edition, or a new model (titanium, sport) in all, the truck is finally modern amd definitely relevant again. its always been hampered by outdated design and features, but at its core, been the best at what it did. now with hlf of its competitors and a whole a other class (large crossovers) gaini g relevance, if price stays competitive, this truck will win back many sales. im just waiting on the configurator to build and price mine, but we still have a navigator to see. if the expy is anything to go by, i think the navi is gonna blow ppls minds.

I did see an article that said available in XLT, Limited and Platinum. Either this is writers lack of knowledge or Ford is holding something back. chucky2
If they hadn't completely borked up the 'shifter' location, thereby completely screwing up the usability of the interior for driver and front passenger, and they had the 3.0L diesel, I'd probably be in line for an EL day 1. Now I'll wait, maybe there will be some kind of police/fleet option that gets rid of the 'shifter' stupidity and puts it back where it belongs. sullynd
The new Expedition will likely be at the top of my list when we replace our Flex. I think it looks great, and am looking forward to seeing it at the Chicago Autoshow.

sullynd
How can you possibly live with that HORRIBLE console, lack of a column shift and no V8?I'm concerned about not liking the rotary gear selector (I'd prefer push buttons). But love the EB - I had an Expedition EL rental and that engine is awesome. (The Expedition impressed me so much I considered trading in the Edge on it [Which has been my worst car] but I've got a nice 5 year gap between the Edge and Flex, I'm trying to stick with a ten year cycling alternating new cars) Edited February 9, 2017 by sullynd
buddysystem
I have to say I'm impressed. I've looked at all the photos and there are now some nice video reviews from Chicago that are worth searching for on YouTube. I'm looking to replace my Yukon XL with an Expedition MAX. Ford finally came through. For me it's all about the seating flexibility and cargo packaging. I want an F150 wagon. Truck beds are useless to me. That's what trailers are for. I like an enclosed cargo area that can be folded flat for recreational hauling. I think the new fold flat is close enough. My old Yukon XL is flat and I mean it's not on an incline. The Expedition probably has some incline towards the front seats. I'm getting used to the F150 dash in this truck. I've gotten past the funky amber lamp extension on the headlights. I do like the grill. The profile is very nice. I'm not there on the oversized taillights....yet. I just rented a 2016 Expedition shorty in Newark this week (That's all National had). I am very impressed with the 3.5 EB The rest is ancient. I do want to learn more about the Limited, XLT premium options before I get too excited. The Platinum is a luxury tease. Dlcorbett
the rotary gear shifter is something thats becoming big in the industry, in the next 5 or so years, stick shifters will be obsolete in vehicles without a manual tranny

LOL, hey, if you're buying me one, I'll order get in line to order it pronto, horrible 'shifter' placement and all.
chucky2
the rotary gear shifter is something thats becoming big in the industry, in the next 5 or so years, stick shifters will be obsolete in vehicles without a manual tranny It's not the rotary shifter for me, it's the placement. As long as the rotary locks on D and can't be bumped off it, I'd learn to live with it.

Yeah, I don't care that it's a knob/rotary instead of the traditional column shifter, it's the placement that is horrible. They're doing it for style rather than functionality reasons and at some point/for some things, that starts becoming a real issue. It'd be nice if they realized real people use these things for something other than style validation of a college design grad with her water bottle and cell phone. buddysystem
Can anyone hazard a guess as to what is under the 2 rear floor panels in the MAX version? I did see one photo that shows a couple balls in the left rear bin. Are there spare tire tools or something in the right rear one that is covered? What is under the next panel towards the front? What is there in the existing model? Just an empty storage bin? I guess these panels can be removed and set up as cargo constraints? I know, details, details. Really liking this truck the more I look at it.
Dlcorbett
hopefully this gives you a good idea, looks like 2 storage bins about 3 - 5 in deep

buddysystem
Thank you Dlcorbett. I guess I 'd have to think about what to put in there. The days of carrying tools and jumpers I think have passed. I wonder if having a spare tire and jack compartment would have worked...as Jeep does in the GC. The spare wheel on my Yukon XL is so rusted it's useless. There's always the argument about having to unload the cargo if you get a flat but... It's very minimal on how much you need to use it.. Reverse, Drive and then you are pretty much done. Don't even have to put it in park when you are ready to leave. Shut the vehicle off and it automatically goes to park (one less thing one really has to do).
Dlcorbett
wow i didnt kno that it did that...i like the rotary dial more. i think it will win ppl over if theres a display in the interface that shows which drive gear and position your in
