Ground up redesign with a new chassis. Explorer's almost 20 year old Volvo platform isn't competitive with more modern designs like Dodge Durango.

There is a big difference between "isn't competitive" (it is) and "doesn't fit me very well".

Well since the Chicago show has come and gone, we aren't seeing a refreshed Explorer anytime soon?

One theory was that they were supposed to show it at Chicago, but the Expy event/rollout didn't go as well as planned, so they decided not to reveal the refreshed Explorer to maintain buzz for the Expy.

By extension, that could mean Explorer could get its' own event, or maybe it could be shown in New York?

What went wrong with the Expy rollout?

Issues with their powerpoints that resulted in awkward lengthy pauses mid presentation (by multiple presenters), the video board being difficult to see for online viewers (I'm assuming it was more visible in person), etc. stuff like that.

There were warning signs before hand that the event at the Star Center wasn't going to be exert they wanted. They didn't push it nearly as hard as they first planned... they invited the folks, they met the obligations outlined by their agreement with the Jones family, and they started working on a new rollout strategy.

AFAIK, the MCE'd Explorer is still on track, we just have to wait a bit longer to see it.

This.

Which is odd, as they did very little with the Expedition at Chicago. I wouldn't be surprised if the vast majority didn't even notice it was new.

It just seemed like an odd event regardless.  Why debut it with the Cowboys?
