Apparently Dodge certifies the SRT Durango will hit 60 in 4.4 and 1/2 in 12.9. The SRT Durango will still have 3 row seats in this version.

Even though I knew this was coming and it isn't a new vehicle or anything (so nothing that really adds to the dwindling lineup FCA has).......but damn that looks good.

I am surprised 475hp will take something that big and heavy to that speed in that time. Was expecting mid 500s.

Agreed, it's a bad ass looking SUV. I wish they would do more with the Explorer Sport, or at least give you factory options to allow it to compete with this or the SRT8 Jeep, which I also like.

Like what?  350-hp isn't good enough I guess?

Looks good. I wish it were coming from a company with some modicum of stability.

10/10... would hoon.

6/10... may lease.

0/10... wouldn't own.

For starters, higher performance brakes and shocks would be nice. Having a Ford performance pack available that could increase the power levels without affecting the warranty would also be nice. The sport is a nice value, but having the ability to take it up a level would be great.

Isn't this just lipstick on a pig at this point or did the flip-flop managers at FCA decide to give the Durango a reprieve?

What? What happened?

Ground up redesign with a new chassis. Explorer's almost 20 year old Volvo platform isn't competitive with more modern designs like Dodge Durango.

Well, the ancient though well executed Explorer owns the segment where the more modern Durango has failed to make a dent.

With that said, CD6 is just around the corner. You won't be disappointed.

I don't know much that I haven't posted here before. The CD6 Explorer is worthy in every way of the volume, ATP, and buyer demographic that the current model has created.

I own a Sport, and it is quite competent. Don't mistake my desire for higher performance as a slam of the vehicle. Perhaps you should drive one for a period of time before you pass judgment on whether it can compete with a Durango or others.

Appreciate the info sir! Do you know if this CD6 Explorer will be shown at an auto show or state fair (like Texas!) this year?

Thank you sir but I'll wait for the CD6 Explorer mentioned by PREMiERdrum. Newer trucks and SUVs from Ford like Edge, F-Series, and the new Expedition shown in Dallas today seem to be much much better than the old ones. That bodes well for CD6 Explorer.

I don't have any experience with the sporty Explorer, but the regular and police Explorers I've driven occasionally for work (contract with federal government) didn't seem to fit me well. Something about the way the seat, doors, and pedals were arranged made the driving position awkward for me. I also briefly drove some Dodge Durango special service vehicles for the same federal agency, and Chevy Tahoes too. For me, the Durangos were more comfortable and felt more solid compared to the Explorers or the Tahoes.

CD6 Explorer won't be out for another couple of years, so no, we won't see it this year.  There will, however, likely be a refresh for Explorer shown at Chicago later this week.

No worries. The CD6 Explorer is on track for a CY2019, MY2020 launch. I'd expect a debut 2 years from now.

As RMC points out, another Explorer MCE should debut next week to carry the 2018 and 2019 model years. Expect front and rear treatments in line with the new Expedition and a drivetrain update.
