Beau
I have a 1998 Expedition XLT, 5.4, automatic, w/tilt steering. Recently I have found I need to either "wiggle" the shifting lever or shift into nuetral in order to start it. Any ideas as to parts needed to fix this issue? fordtech1
Look under the column. The cable attaches to the shifter tube. There two t30 bolts that probably need to be tightened. Make sure to set parking brake before climbing under dash so it doesn't roll. Putting LOC tite isn't a bad idea. But getting those out and back in can be challenging. I would tighten them up good and ride
Beau
had someone tell me it is a "plastic" piece inside the column, that is no longer available??? any follow-up to that?
fordtech1
Your main problem is the bolts loose I would bet. If the shifter feels sloppy after tightening then there two shift tube bushings that are worn. They are still available. You will have to drop column to replace them.
