Ford Bronco will ride again, says CEO Mark Fields at Detroit auto show

Boom

“We’ve heard our customers loud and clear. They want a new generation of vehicles that are incredibly capable yet fun to drive,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford’s president of The Americas.

“Ranger is for truck buyers who want an affordable, functional, rugged and maneuverable pickup that’s Built Ford Tough.

Bronco will be a no-compromise midsize 4x4 utility for thrill seekers who want to venture way beyond the city.”

Hinrichs stated that Ranger production would begin late next year (meaning late 2018).

Yeah that would make sense...I was getting my MY mixed up...2018s come out this year, a 2019 would be post September 2018...thats a year and half from now.

So the Bronco would be in production at the start of 2019, after the Ranger launch. I have my SHO paid off in fall of '18 :)

Are we likely to get a reveal of the Ranger/Bronco any time soon?

I so badly want to get a new Ranger. I have a 3/4 ton truck now that I use to pull trailers and other work, but I want to replace my car with a smaller truck that fits into the garage. Hopefully it will get decent mileage.

So, any news on the Ranger? Will it be aluminum? 10 speed transmission? 2.7 EB? Have a Velociraptor model? Me's wants to know......

I've been considering an Edge, but a Bronco definitely interests me.....hopefully they make it nicer inside than the Wrangler.

I'm wondering if a 4-door version would be a good replacement for our Flex. It would have to have 3 seat belts across the back seat though, which the Wrangler does not. And, as you mentioned, it would have to be nicer inside than the Wrangler as well.

I've heard it will be 4 doors for sure, with a 2 door version that's still up in the air

I didn't realize the Wrangler didn't have a 5th seat/seatbelt. But yeah, I'd be making the same switch from a Flex, so while I wouldn't expect it to have Lincoln levels of luxury, I'd like it to be at least toward Edge levels rather than the more ultra utility approach that Wrangler takes. And given how Ford is with the trucks making them nice, it won't surprise me if they do have nice models alongside the more utility ones.

As I've said many times, the project just wouldn't be viable being anything but a 4-door with a 2-door a secondary option.

Bronco design and interior probably depends on how much is shared with the Everest.

As for the Ranger, is there still time to lobby for the 2.7EB and 10-speed? How about an AWD option coupled with a 2-speed transfer case? In other words, a modern version of my 2007 Sport Trac 4x4 Limited V-8. ;)

Unless I'm mistaken, the Wrangler only has 4 position seating. I could be wrong, though, because it's been quite a while since I've been in one.

Yeah, I would give up some amenities inside to drive a Bronco, but not to the level of Wrangler. Now, since our Flex is my wife's daily driver, I'm not sure if she would or not. :) I'm pretty excited to see what Ford does with the Bronco. The Flex will be up for replacement in 3 ish years, so the timing is perfect.

I'm actually starting to get the impression that the Bronco is replacing Everest in the global lineup and won't share much, if any from the Everest.

I too would expect a 4-door as the primary model, but what would be the reason not to build a 2-door model? It doesn't seem like it would cost much to add, and would be incremental volume and profit.

I'm personally only interested in a 4-door, but I see plenty of 2-doors running around. I have a friend that surprisingly chose a 2 over a 4.

My uncle used to have one but traded it in on a Grand Cherokee this time around.

I like my amenities haha.....that's one thing Ford has been good at, though.....no matter which vehicle/model across the whole lineup, there always seems to be a trim that offers just about all of the goodies Ford has to offer. So I wouldn't expect a Bronco to be any different.

The problem is that it would require a second set of stampings. The Wrangler is really unique in the fact that it doesn't have fixed enclosed area over the passenger area into the rear storage area. I don't see Ford going that route with the Bronco...I think they are correctly aiming at the market that wants a bit more refinement when it comes the interior.
