Could the Ranger have some competition from Ram?

From one of the regular providers of info at Allpar:

My sources are stating the Ram is having a hard push for the past 16 months about the development of a mid-size Dakota replacement to battle the market against the GM twins of the Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma, the Nissan Frontier and the upcoming Ford Ranger. According to my sources the project is well underway and could share several things with the upcoming Jeep Wrangler pickup as well as being built at Toledo on the same line. This vehicle would come out after the Jeep Wrangler pickup. Where the Jeep Wrangler pickup would have suspension based on the Jeep Wrangler meaning a solid front axle the Ram mid-size replacement would have independent front suspension and be very unique from the Jeep.

Mike Manley the CEO of the Ram brand as well as its Jeep brand has made it very public that Ram is looking at a Dakota mid-size replacement vehicle. The vehicle would depend on the production of the Jeep Wrangler pickup and how much capacity you would be left considering the Jeep would be a hot-selling item. However according to the sources FCA now believes that there is room for both vehicles in the FCA US lineup. It is not sure how much of the vehicles would be commonly shared but standard platform could be a good start.

Again take this as a grain of salt because of is it just a rumor and nothing it's set in stone. But the Ram team is supposedly far into development of such a vehicle.
