sullynd
I got a 2017 EL as a rental. Didn't need/want the length, and was tempted by the Yukon which was my other choice, but wanted to checkout the EX. I can see why it's had a nice little bump. The engine is awesome. The thing is solid. Not a single rattle compared with my Edge that's been a rattle trap since day one. SYNC 3 seems ok so far, though while the graphics are clear, they seem a little generic. Only gripe is the remote start has half the range of my Edge, and the remote doesn't acknowledge whether it's started or not the way my Edge does. My wife seems to like it even more than I do!
HofstraJet
Thanks for the info. I have a 15 and my lease is expiring this November so I'm planning on getting an 18. I recently rented a Yukon with 100 miles on it - very nice truck. Interested to see what the 18 Expy comes out with. Sync is my biggest gripe - I just need an SUV that I can get my wheelchair in and out of easily and the Expy is the only one with the second row bench that folds flat and low enough that I can get my chair in through the rear passenger door. Every GM has a higher floor so I have to use the tailgate, which is problematic when I am carrying a load. Thus I have been an Expy owner for 13 years or so. However, I am sufficiently frustrated with Sync that I would consider getting the Yukon and suffering with the other problems for a few years and see how bad it is. Wife wants me to get an Escalade but the high floor has always been a problem. May have to suck it up as the interior cabin features are really important to me. Shocked that the Expy doesn't get the "fun" features of the lower end vehicles. Edited January 8, 2017 by HofstraJet
Dlcorbett
the newer expys (16+) have a better and updated sync than the one used on your 15. idk if you have tried it but it is vsstly superior. my dad has an escalade, beautiful truck, my problem is though is that its a vanity truck like all gms. it looks amazing, but its not ppl friendly. the seats are 2 firm, the ride is 2 trucky, interior packaging behind the front row is abysmal, and if you think sync is bad, cue is on a whole nother level. i myself is waiting for an 18 but ford is taking they sweet time to unveil it. i also read somewhere that the navi wont be ready until early next year snd the price will jump exponentially. if the 17s didnt look so dated inside, id get one, but my 09 navi treats me well 75% of the time. after driving both mone and my dads truck extensively, i can honestly say i will never own a gm. Dlcorbett
and also tbe current platform the trucks are on are 2 old for the newest features available. i understand partly because the platform is 20 yrs old, what i dont understand is how were nissan and toyota able to include these features on their trucks on platforms not much newer. tbone
I believe it's more of a choice not to include those options because of an unwillingness to invest any more money in the old model. It was suggested that the recent minor changes that were made to the Expy/Nav were changes that had been mothballed for a while until they decided what to do with the Expedition as a whole and then finally pulled the trigger on the minor MCEs while they were waiting for the new models to arrive. akirby
Yes, it's a choice on investments and where to spend the money. A few years ago the future of Expy and Navi were uncertain after the huge market shift and waiting to see how the aluminum F150 turned out so they withheld investment and now they're catching up. caplanm
waloud: Since you will be building them, have you seen any pre-production units yet?
fuzzymoomoo
It's a bit early for pre-production units. Ford typically starts that about 6 months before full production is scheduled to start.
Dlcorbett
thats weird, both the f150, mustang, superduties, ecosport and focus rs were shown well before full production started
fuzzymoomoo
thats weird, both the f150, mustang, superduties, ecosport and focus rs were shown well before full production started Showing and building pre production units are 2 totally different things. The first vehicles shown at the official unveiling always come from the pilot plant, not the plant they will eventually be built at. The 2018 F-150s and Mustangs they have on the floor in Detroit right now all came from pilot. The pre production builds asked about earlier are the units that KTP will build to make sure the build process on the line there is finalized and that they can build them at speed with no major flaws. It's why we call them trials on the line. Edited January 21, 2017 by fuzzymoomoo
waloud
We have not seen any at KTP. When we shut down in July, they will be retooling the SUV lines for the 18s. We might start seeing some later this spring.

tbone
It's just surprising that we have not seen an uncamoed one yet. Seems really late to me.
waloud
its starting to feel like the redesign model are my19 instead of 18 July used to be the standard changeover for model years. Looks like Ford is going back to that way for the Expy/Navigator. This will be a big change, steel to aluminum, a lot of changes at the plant. It's just surprising that we have not seen an uncamoed one yet. Seems really late to me. I work at KTP and still haven't seen the new model. The launch team as been in Michigan working on it. I would like think we would start seeing a few in May or June before summer shutdown.
Dlcorbett
trying to picture what itll look like through the spy photos. id pull the trigger on a 17 but the price just doesnt seem worth it for the interior design and lack of features. it does drive amazing though but the armada is cheaper, new, drives almost as well, and undercuts price by almost 10k with more modern tech
