Perkdaddy
So I put an '02 4.6 into my '96 Crown Vic.... and the torque converter studs are too long and interfere with the trans spacer.... so what did I miss? The only thing that comes to mind is that the offset on the flex plate is less than on the 96. Or did I miss something??? On another note, does anyone know the part number for an '02 engine oil dipstick tube?
Perkdaddy
Update: Had to grind off two threads of each stud to clear the spacer and had to get a 3/32 starter spacer to clear the flex plate as it was slightly contacting the teeth. fordtech1
Unfortunately I haven't swapped years like that so I couldn't help much. Obviously something with torque converter and/or Bell housing was changed. Sometimes when you do swaps you have to improvise like you did.
