“There are so many factors that have to be taken into consideration, it’s not as easy as saying ‘we want to race Mustangs next season’, click our fingers, and it happens.

“It’s a conversation we need to be having with Ford, and we need to work through it with the category because there is the homologation of a two-door car, which has not been done yet."

2018 should be very interesting for the Supercar series. 2018 Commodore, errr . . . Insignia . . . will use a twin-turbo V6 for the series embedded within the RWD Supercar control chassis.

Deadline looms for Mustang Supercar

Time is running out for the Ford Mustang to join the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship in 2018, admits Team Penske president Tim Cindric.

The American giant expects to continue with its current Falcons in 2018 unless the Mustang gets the green light from Ford Australia within the next month.

Penkse's Shell V-Power Racing and fellow Ford Supercars team Prodrive have collaborated on feasibility studies into a Mustang program, which needs Ford’s blessing to go ahead.
