Sergio Pajaro
I have a 2003 Mazda Tribute (identical to Ford Escape chassis and motor) with a Duratec 30 V6 24v with an automatic transmission. The motor is seized. I want to swap the V6 for the smaller Zetec 2.0 I4 5 speed.a) is this possible? b) what is the level of difficulty involved with installing a clutch pedal and shift knob assembly? twintornados
A.) it is possible. B.) Humongous. You would basically have to change EVERYTHING....better off putting another V6 in it and motor on....
akirby
Or selling it and buying one with the 2.0L 5 speed.
Sergio Pajaro
Appreciate the advice fellas. 5 speed was kinda wishful thinking. I'd still like to drop a 2.0L automatic over the v6 in it though, my main gripes being the amount of space in the engine compartment around the v6 (the whole removing the intake manifold for rear COP's/spark plugs and alternator placement).Unfortunately selling it is not much of an option right now. Am I still looking at a pain in the a** trying to do this and I should still go with a v6? Edited November 29, 2016 by Sergio Pajaro

fordtech1
The only way I see how you could swap for a 4 cyl is having a parts vehicle to take parts from. You would need everything including pcm and engine harness plus mounts and all kinds of stuff. Your best bet is to just put a 3.0 back in it. You would have to change everything from radiator to CV axles and probably part of the exhaust. Also, I'm not sure if the body harness and engine harness are compatible between the two engines. Pioneer
Our family has had a 2004 V6 and a 2007 I4. You're better off with the V6. Just do what I did. When one COP went on the rear bank, I changed them all and saved the other two for spares.
