rmc523
It's a pretty derivative, boring design that looks a lot like the Grand Cherokee, especially from the rear 3/4 view. Is it just me, or do VW interiors just look cheap? http://www.autoblog.com/2016/10/27/2018-volkswagen-atlas-crossover-details/
akirby
Very conservative and very Grand Cherokee-ish but that's not a bad thing. I don't particularly like VW interiors but I don't see them as cheap.

Anthony
Their interiors don't have artistic flourishes seen on a lot of vehicles today. I don't want to say "simple", but I would not say cheap either. Perhaps function over form.

RichardJensen
Perhaps function over form. Well, based on their cupholders and other fiddly bits made out of lots of pieces of very breakable plastic*, I would say 'unnecessary engineering over function over form' Like these cupholders, for instance. I would bet you dollars to donuts those little grips, which are single pieces of soft rubber on most Japanese/domestic cars are actually little plastic caps over springs on this car. Or maybe they're even little rollers on spring-loaded axles! Edited October 28, 2016 by RichardJensen
fuzzymoomoo
The new VW Grand Cherokee looks just as bland as the rest of their lineup Meh
bolt in blue
VW puts nicer interiors in the same cars in Germany. Germans seeing a VW in the US are often completely confused by the lack of quality. I like some of the VW vehicles, especially their willingness to bring more euro style vehicles to the US, but overall am not impressed with their offerings. When they have competition, it seems like most of the other offerings execute better. That said, I had a Golf as a rental in Spain that had a much nicer interior than the US Golf - and it was a lower model. I wouldn't say the car was a joy to drive though since it had been in a major accident before me and I think the location was just trying to dump it on another location, since it was a one way rental. Not to say I don't like a simple interior design......I much prefer something like the Edge or Continental or Navigator (concept) "clean" look to overstyled Focus and Escape dashes.....but there's something about the latest VW interiors that just look phoned in or something. Maybe my view has been biased after driving in the current Jetta, which featured hard plastics everywhere.
twintornados
Looks like a Traverse and a Grand Cherokee got it on.....
bzcat
This thing is an inch longer than Explorer. It is big! Edited October 28, 2016 by bzcat
Hugh
My 2 cents: I'm not a fan of the name because it makes it sound too big and excessive. The exterior is IMO typical VW: Conservative and plain but somewhat handsome. I am worried the size might be too much. Interior: The word I'm looking for is Spartan. If it's like the Tiguan my friends have it has the hard durable plastics and the soft touch plastics in the right places where it counts but not much more. Will it work? At least it isn't a Cry-Co minivan in disguise. Edited October 28, 2016 by Hugh
tbone
I think you guys should stop insulting the Grand Cherokee.

BORG
I do admire the purity of VW design and they are handsome in their own right, but I don't equate VW with the quality I would expect from simple Germanic design.
silvrsvt
It reminds me more of cross between a Jeep Renegade and Patriot, then a GC The color they showing it off in doesn't help one bit either...reminded of baby shit brown/gold. 630land
Looks like they took parts from wrecked late model SUV's and put them together, but made sure it's not too expensive. Someone on another site said "can't do wrong selling a GENERIC_SUV in today's market". But like in the early 70's when lone commuters drove 6 passenger full size cars to work, same thing today. 3 row seat SUV's with one driver, because "they wanted one" i.e. "want to fit in with what everybody has". Yeah, because nobody that commutes to work alone has a family to haul around when they aren't commuting.
630land
Gas is cheap. But, can't trust the oil companies and overseas producers to have "permanent" low prices.
