Harley Lover
The show begins on November 18, so less than a month from now. Any guesses what Ford might decide to show?
BORG
Expedition seems most likely, with Navigator in Detroit...but I think it would be best if Navigator comes before Expedition since they share the same body design. I could see them flipping the script this time. LA: Navigator and Mustang MCE Detroit: Expedition Ford otherwise has a very light schedule for the next few years and it's way too early to preview a Bronco concept. fuzzymoomoo
I still think we might see a Ranger concept in Detroit
ice-capades
With all the press I'd certainlt thing that Lincoln would want to show off the Navigator as soon as possible with the next Ford Ranger being a good candidate soon. Showing the new Bronco would be a surprise this early but would certainly be welcome for all the media attention it would get.
BORG
Once you start talking Ranger, you might as well also start talking about Focus, Fiesta, Escape, Model E, EcoSport, etc.. It's all landing around the same time. A Ranger concept would be nice just to wake up the name, although it's still 2+ years away. akirby
I'm not 100% sure it will be called the Ranger. So you're thinking F100?
92merc
So you're thinking F100? Personally, that's what I'm hoping for. There's nothing wrong with the Ranger name. But I think keeping with the F series name keeps the "brand" more cohesive. Could bring back the Ranger trim name...
ANTAUS
I figure they would use the F-100 name only because they can throw those numbers into the tally for F-series and make sure they keep their crown. If buyers decide to cannalize, it's still in the same pool. Edited October 24, 2016 by ANTAUS
fordmantpw
So you're thinking F100? Yup. The Ranger was a low-cost, mostly no-frills vehicle that was cheap. The F100 won't be the same. I still think we may see a Ranger come back based on the Transit Connect/Focus/Escape when gas prices go back up.
sullynd
If they go F100 I wouldn't be surprised if Ranger was still part of the name (i.e. Whereas an F250 is a Superduty, an F100 is a Ranger.

BORG
I think they will use the Ranger name, going with an F-Series moniker is probably a bad idea considering how valuable that brand is. And besides, the only time they split names globally is when they merge existing global products (Escape/Kuga, Fusion/Mondeo).

BORG
I think the most important product Ford needs to showcase is some sort of preview of their electrification program, like a Model E concept. That could happen in LA or Detroit. Right now Ford is completely absent from this conversation which has been dominated by Chevy. Ford just needs to fill this gap with some sort of visible evidence of their progress, although I suspect the Model E isn't exactly an exotic showpiece (although certainly more exotic than a Ranger concept). But at the same time with gas prices being at their lowest point in years, why show off something that isn't going to really take off in the marketplace? There really isn't a strong demand for a fully electric car out there...they are still too expensive for most people. If they can get the price down to $25K for a sedan...maybe. They'd be better off showing a Hybrid or Electrified CUV instead, since thats where the market growth is happening.
bzcat
Supposedly something called "EcoSport" is coming to LA although not sure if it will be the existing production model or a concept for the next gen.

None of Ford's hybrids are going anywhere until they have new products to base them on, all of which are tied to the same platform the Model E is arriving on. Model E is a much more significant showcase vehicle. However my concern is that it's probably still too early in the development cycle anyway. I think there are two sides to why you would want electric. Economy is one but the other is the experience an electrified vehicle can offer. A quieter and smoother ride with far more power and torque than any gas engine. For me electrification is a luxury, it's not about economy. I don't expect Ford to be on this side of the spectrum with Model E (which I'm sure is just a cheap next-gen Focus retrofit) but I hope they will be someday. Right now Ford just needs to catch up, I don't expect anything exotic from them. Edited October 25, 2016 by BORG

That would be a big deal, where did you hear that? The EcoSport is getting a facelift so there is a remote possibility this will bring it to the US and be revealed in LA. probowler
I would love to see the F100 name return... People know what the F150 is all about, and I think F100 perfectly captures what Fords small pickup needs to be: A modern, efficient, and capable "compact" truck for the practical man Throw in a Ranger trim badge and everybody is happy Edited October 25, 2016 by probowler

I hope you are wrong about this, I'm expecting the Model E to have a bespoke chassis in terms of electrification, designed to carry batteries without impinging on luggage or passenger space (i.e. what GM has done with the Volt chassis). IMO it would be a huge mistake for Ford to stick Model E with another bandaid solution for its batteries.
