BORG
Unless they call it F-100...hey F-Series sales just went up! I was actually just talking to my Dad and I told him about the Ranger (he use to buy them for decades). And he mentioned "They aren't calling it Ranger are they?". He implied that the Ranger for him is synonymous with small and inferior. Edited October 6, 2016 by BORG

Nearly every single person I've talked to who doesn't even casually follow the industry thinks it's a new version of the old compact Ranger. I know my father in law has stated several times that there is a "market" out there for a small pickup like the old Ranger because Full-sized pickups are so expensive...but then again I'm assuming people want them at 1990's pricing of 15K or so too. theoldwizard
Maybe double named like the Transit Connect. F100 Ranger.
silvrsvt
After the global Ranger came out, the "corporate line" was "the costs are too close". There was (and likely still is) a concern that the Ranger will steal sales from the F150 and it would lose it "best selling pickup truck" crown. I know Ford held the price line on the first aluminum F150s, but has the price on the base model recently crept up, leaving more room for the Ranger ? On that note, don't expect to see any "high end" trim packages (Raptor, King Ranch, Platinum, Limited) on the Ranger for a few years after Job #1. There is plenty of room for the Ranger under the F-150...a F-150 XL starts at ~$27K, but your lucky to find one on the lots that cheap...its more like $31-33K A nicely equipped Ranger would be around $35K with a starting price of 22-24K
BORG
Ranger is a bit of a toxic name but I'm sure that's what they'll use since it's a global product and a recognizable name. It'll take some convincing but probably not much.

My 1990 cost $7995 - and that included a 4 speaker am/fm cassette, chrome bumper and wheels, sliding rear window and an aluminum look tailgate cover. Reg. Cab 4 cylinder manual. silvrsvt
Don't forget about the Ranger Edge too...which was dropped when the Edge CUV came out LOL Guess Ford is fond of recycling trim names for new products...
akirby
My dad still has his 1998 Ranger XLT SuperCab...It was $28K before his A plan discount I think you meant $18K, not $28K. Top MSRP for a 98 Ranger XLT was $18,880.

You might be right...IIRC I got my first Mustang around the same price. I'll see if he still has the sticker (he keeps stuff like that...I still have my sticker from my first car which was his 86 Escort GT!) My 2006 Mustang was around 29K before A plan. tbone
I don't know where you came up with the Ranger nameplate being toxic. Sure it was long in the tooth at its end, but I never heard anything derogatory about the Ranger badge. I had an 83, 86, 89, and a 93, with little to no problems. They were great trucks, and in my opinion a better size to compliment the fullsized trucks.

I've noticed a pattern with him, anything he doesn't like he considers "toxic"
