jniffen
I've mentioned this in other threads. But what are the stopping points, besides cost of making the Lincoln models ,compared to the Fords, longer in the chassis. For example 3 to 4 inches more and give that to the back sitting area for the leg/knee room? I noticed the Volvo has a S60 T5 Inscription which is longer that the regular S60. I would have been more tempted on the MKC but it's too short in the back seating area for my 18 year old son. When the Cougar first came out it was longer than the Mustang, better riding etc. I realize this will not happen but just would like to discuss it. If it did, at least the media could say, 'it's just an Escape or Edge, Focus etc." (Correction, what I meant - media could NOT say, 'it's just an Escape, Edge or Focus, etc.') Edited November 21, 2016 by jniffen
akirby
Not a bad idea for some models at least. But then you'd have to do it across the board or the MKC would be almost the same size as MKX.
rmc523
I agree MKC needs some more rear legroom. I do also believe they did make changes to the platform for the MKC compared to the Escape. I think it is wider. But I also think MKC was limited by being made late in the Escape's lifecycle.
akirby
This where the longer C vehicles would help.
jniffen
Yes, but unless I am mistaken, the MKX is narrower than the MKX. And so on, and so on and so on...

Hugh
This where the longer C vehicles would help. MKC is slightly bigger than the Escape. That said, a 'C' is a 'C' or else it's be a 'C/D'.
brucelinc
I think the MKZ would be more desirable with a longer wheelbase and more rear seat room. As it is today, with the roofline being different than the Fusion, it has less room in the back. The Continental makes very good use of its 6 inch longer wheelbase. The Z wouldn't need to go that far - just a couple of inches would help.
ANTAUS
...That's what she said.... Sorry couldn't help myself... But seriously, yes I can see that as a possibility but really Lincoln only has a few vehicles that suffer from that issue. MKZ, MKC being the worst offenders. And I can see that being a natural progression of those products as they slot an even smaller luxury crossover under the MKC. And I was hoping with the new redesigned grille being phased in, than the MKCrap would go away.
jpd80
MKC is slightly bigger than the Escape. That said, a 'C' is a 'C' or else it's be a 'C/D'. It's fascinating that the MKC is an inch wider than the Escape yet the interior dimensions and passenger volume seems unchanged.

It looks to me like the MKZ was developed using the Mondeo hatchback's lower roof line as inspiration for a more swept look, I don't think this was at all necessary and was basicallychange for change's sake in the wrong area. had Lincoln simply adopted Fusion sedan but with a 2" longer wheelbase, a bigger and more pronounced change in perception could have been achieved. But on second thoughts, that would have made the MKS look bad in comparison and only hastened its drop in sales. brucelinc
The MKS was the worst offender in terms of wheelbase. When the mid cycle refresh was done in 2013, I was hoping for a wheelbase stretch but it didn't happen. It was really dead man walking from then on, anyway. ...That's what she said.... Sorry couldn't help myself... SHE had better be careful what she wishes for..... Edited October 3, 2016 by brucelinc
StangBang
It's fascinating that the MKC is an inch wider than the Escape yet the interior dimensions and passenger volume seems unchanged. Think about what an inch is. Almost nothing. That means a half an inch difference on each side of the vehicle. That could be the difference in door mirror designs or slightly more bulged out door skin or wheel opening lip. One inch of exterior width is not going to make a difference in interior room.
