Hankook Dynapro HT OEM Tires - Warranty?

HofstraJet

Recommended Posts

I have a 15 Expy with the Hankook Dynapro HTs that the vehicle came with. The tread is getting pretty worn and I will be needing new tires soon. Problem is I have around 35K miles. Do the OEM tires come with the same warranty as Hankook provides (70K treadwear) or does Ford provide a different warranty period? Thanks!

You need to find a Hankook dealer....Ford did not make the tires so why would Ford warranty them.

Because they're part of the vehicle - bumper to bumper includes tires but only for defects, not treadwear.

Hankook warrants that a tire manufactured by Hankook and equipped

originally on the vehicle is free from defects in materials or workmanship

in normal use for the life of the original usable tread. The life of the

original usable tread ends when the tire tread has been worn down with

only 2/32nds inch (1.6 mm) remaining, at which point the tire is

considered to be fully worn out.

PASSENGER CAR AND LIGHT TRUCK TIRES

A. Free replacement

If Hankook Radial Passenger & Light Truck Tires fail as a result of defect

in material and/or workmanship within the First 25% of treadwear, the

tire will be replaced with a new, comparable Hankook tire at no charge

including mounting and balancing charges.

B. Pro rata replacement

Tires not qualifying for free replacement will be allowed a credit toward

purchase of a new, comparable Hankook Tire Based upon the amount of

tread actually worn. The cost of mounting, balancing and any other

service charges of Applicable taxes shall be paid by the user. Otherwise

adjustment for compensation will be made on a pro rata basis calculated

by multiplying the actual dealer selling price by the percentage of

remaining usable tread depth.

I agree completely. Two of the Bridgestone OEM tires that came on our new car we purchased last year had high road force values, causing a really unpleasant feel on the highway. The dealer(s) wouldn't touch it, and always seem to not know how to handle tire related issues (which I personally find to be unacceptable, as a former dealership service writer (non-FoMoCo). I popped into my local Firestone, and they not only replaced the tires, no questions asked, no fee, but they upgraded me to a higher-end Bridgestone with a longer tread life at my request, for no cost.

I, as someone who's been on both sides of the counter for these types of issues, would advise that you contact Hankook. In the case of a treadlife issue, there may be only a prorated credit awaiting you, but that's much better than paying full price. I'd be extremely surprised if they didn't refer you to a local Hankook dealer for a tire prorate evaluation. I'd actually sort of recommend Sears Auto Center if you've got one near you. Their POS makes it really easy for them to do an accurate proration, and that would also give you some history with them if you ever need warranty tire service when you're travelling, versus a small independent shop. I'm assuming they still sell Hankook, of course.

Most (if not all) tire mfrs save money on OEM tires by not providing tread wear warranty which saves the auto mfrs money. They also provide different tires for oems than they do for retail sales in some cases. The tire warranty above is clear about that.

That said, some shops may cover them anyway, so it never hurts to ask.
