bifs66 Posted August 29, 2016 Share Posted August 29, 2016 We spent three days at VIR this past weekend to watch the IMSA races; and see the Ford GT in person. As Ford fans, we were somewhat disappointed to see neither the GT350 nor the Ford GT win their respective races. Other than that (and the heat) it was interesting to see the race cars; and watch the crews preparing them. In person, the Ford GT has that V6 sound that just cannot compete with the ground shaking noise of a 7 liter V-8 (Corvette) when racing. However, the whistle of the turbos at low rpms is pretty cool. Maybe they should find some way to amplify that part of the sound! Well, the Corvette has won three (??) straight GTLM races; and from what I witnessed, it was playing with the Ford GT. Every time the Ford GT closed on the Corvette, the Corvette pulled out a significant lead. This happened throughout the race. The second GT started dead last on the field (tire change after qualifying) and ended up fourth after the second Corvette ran off course. It appears to me that the BOP changes have taken the muscle out of the GTs. There was a serious thunderstorm during the Continental Tire race, which probably gave the winning Porsche an advantage over the GT350 on the wet track. The "grid walk" was particularly interesting. Before the green flag, spectators were allowed to walk down the lineup and see the cars up close; and meet the drivers and crew members. After the slow start of the season for the Ford GT's at Daytona and Sebring, the Fords won a couple in a row I believe. This triggered a couple BOP adjustments I believe. Why was that done. The Chevy's and Ford's wins were split? Now that corvette has 3 consecutive wins I think if IMSA truly wanted a "balance of power" they'd revisit their changes.
