akirby
The whole timing of it, use of CD4 rather than CD6, not waiting for the 9 speed, etc. etc. etc.
jcartwright99
The whole timing of it, use of CD4 rather than CD6, not waiting for the 9 speed, etc. etc. etc. Gotcha. Well, I think the fact that needed something that could be good (no idea how good) now (vs waiting another 3 or so years). CD6 better be all that, since everyone thinks it's Ford/Lincolns life saving platform.
akirby
I think it's better to get it out there as it is a step forward in design and performance for Lincoln and will bridge the gap between now and whatever is in store for CD6 or other new things down the road. tbone
I don't mind they put the car out on an old platform, but they should have used a different transmission.
akirby
I don't mind they put the car out on an old platform, but they should have used a different transmission. But it isn't ready yet. Should they have waited another year or two?
Anthony
So are we saying this Continental is a stop-gap car?
tbone
No, they shouldn't have waited, but they should have bought an outside vendors transmission as a stop gap measure to make the car more consistent with the class it participates in. Don't misunderstand, I like the car. I think it's sharp.
akirby
So are we saying this Continental is a stop-gap car? I don't think it started that way but I think that's where it ended up. I think CD6 is the new direction.

fuzzymoomoo
Anything new on when Cotinentals will begin to ship to dealers? My buddy who is still at FRAP mentioned the other day that they've resolved a lot of the issues they were having and they can focus more on maintaining and improving quality. They're still waiting for the OK to ship.
fordtech1
My buddy who is still at FRAP mentioned the other day that they've resolved a lot of the issues they were having and they can focus more on maintaining and improving quality. They're still waiting for the OK to ship. Do all the units that have been built before "ok to ship" get rechecked and fixed or do they get used for other things such as company cars? Does every one that's built even pre production models have vin numbers? How does that work? Edited September 11, 2016 by fordtech1

Does every one that's built even pre production models have vin numbers? How does that work? To your first question, yes to the extent that if there was a repair already needed they fix it, the 100 or so that are in inventory now won't be rechecked, they've been declared ready to ship once the Ok has been given. Every car built gets a VIN. Period. Even prototypes the Pilot plant builds.

rmc523
I was able to see the production model in person today. Unfortunately it was up on the turntable, so I couldn't sit in it, but it was still nice to see it. I took several pictures - I'll post them tomorrow when I get a chance to upload them.
LincolnLover
Fun tidbit that I didn't know where else to put, but they're working on a Lincoln coupe. Let's hear more about this....... This excites me, and many many others..... EcoBoost V8, I can hear it now! Sedan variant, and convertible....... Winner.
