CAW contract negotiations

"NAFTA is the SHAFTA" former Michigan Governor {Canadian Born} Jennifer Granholm and now the CAW is finding that out the hard way.I have read all the "advantages" the CAW claims to posses such as; highly educated and skilled workforce;low crime/stable society;universal healthcare;quality awards and better infrastructure. Now here is what I imagine after living in Metro Detroit all my life and rubbing shoulders with Canadians all my life is being said by the CAW behind closed doors."Mr.Ford,Mr.GM.Mr.Chrysler may I ask you how many of your vehicles manufactured in Mexico do you sell in Mexico and how many of these same vehicles do you sell in Canada and the USA"?NAFTA began under the Clinton Administration but we all know that the politicians are just puppets and the people who run the show are the 'wealthy corporations' who pay them bribes. The Obama administration has its way and the TransPacificPartnership would become law and then Mexico would have to compete with the likes of Vietnam.,Global Capitalism and One World Government without borders, this is what I believe the wealthy desire as a way to obtain even more wealth and more control and more power.Good-Luck CAW.

Nafta began under the Bush administration. Clinton just signed it into law. If the TPP passes companies(such as FoMoCo) can legally bus in foreign workers into the U.S. to work and live. Just imagine what WILL happen if we were to go on strike.

Don't have to bus them in............ they are already here...............

What politicians didn't take into account over the years every time they supported free trade, etc. was that when they loose the middle class union jobs they also lost the taxes these jobs pay. Add to that the tariffs that were lifted and uncle Sam has lost a lot of revenue, no wonder they are broke and in debt now.

The only folks that came out ahead on these deals were the owners/shareholders of companies.

I think the politicians attitude on taxes is "we can always get more".You are right about profits and share price. The CAW usually does very well {considering what they have to work with} in contract negotiations.Question is what leverage do they currently have?DTP just ran a production Sunday so maybe the CAW can interfere with the F-150 now that would give them some leverage.Hate to say it but maybe a reality check is in order and a deal can be struck for future product if the CAW grants some concessions.Darn it kills me to say that but it is probably true. There is one hope, its a longshot, its doubtful, but if the public ever got behind the unions and stopped buying Hecho en Mexico vehicles. However we all know how good the politicians and their mainstream media allies are at playing Divide and Conquer with the masses so as usual IF is the big word.
