Lost Keys

Posting this question for my brother who lives in a different state, so let me say I don't know what the key looks like. He lost the keys to his 2008 F-150. Anyone have any idea what he needs to do to get new ones? One dealer told me they only carry keys dating 6 years back, that the best option was to call an automotive locksmith. Another dealer told me to tow it in, they'd have to cut keys for it and reprogram the keys. Cost would be $190 plus tax. Anyone know if this sounds right? Or is there another option? Thanks for any info

I bought some keys off eBay and used the FORSCAN software to actually program my keys for our 2004 Mustang a while back.  It actually worked!  Just had to get the key pattern cut.  It is a process that takes a few minutes, though, and you have to be willing to take a chance and possibily have to clear the keys from the car computer.  I haven't tried it on a newer Ford.
