Sold the wife's Expedition and ordered an Explorer

Recommended Posts

We sold the wife's 2007 Expedition last month. It was a great vehicle, but with the kids getting older, we just didn't need that big of a vehicle anymore. After test driving a few Explorers, my wife decided on ordering a 2017 Ford Explorer Limited FWD, black on black, with the 2.3L EB. She's pretty excited about it. I was really impressed on how much more powerful the 2.3EB felt when compared to the NA 3.5L V6. I tried talking her into a Sport, but she said she didn't need that much power.

Congratulations on your new purchase. :)

I'm looking at the internal dimensions of Explorer and Expeditions, it seems like the interior has slightly

less hip and shoulder room but the front and second row leg room looks to be about the same.

The real change seems to be at the back / third row where explorer has about 5" less leg room.

All in all, it seems like a great move if you're down sizing but don't want to drop too much in size.

I'm looking forward to seeing your take on the differences after living with both cars day today,

Great to hear the 2.3 EB is capable and impressive, the difference in fuel economy will be interesting.

I had originally planned to buy a 16 Explorer Platinum, but it was taking so long to get that I cancelled and ordered a 16 Expedition Platinum instead. I think the driving position feels better in the Expedition and left foot room is not cramped. I found it difficult to get into the back of the Explorer. I'm about 6.2 and a big guy. I ordered the Expedition with the 2nd row captains chairs and can get to the 3rd row fairly easy.
