Viper confirmed dead

The article mentions the last production date is expected to be in August 2017. That isn't too far off a lot of our guesses for the drop dead date for the Dodge brand as a whole.

That's what I was thinking too... 2018 would otherwise be the time for FCA to roll out a mid cycle update on Dart. And we already know the current Charger is on indefinitely extension with no replacement imminent. So either you pull the plug on the brand in late 2017 or you have to commit to replacing Dart and Charger. We'll know for sure soon if we start seeing (or don't see...) test mules for Dart or Charger.

They are at the point where if they want to save an American car division, they will have to either put everything into either Dodge or Chrysler and let the other die and due to the fact the company is FCA and not FDA, it looks like they chose Chrysler. The Challenger could easily be badged as a Chrysler as there is a precident for giving a car the same name at the same time in two divisions at Chrysler like they did with the Dodge/Plymouth Neon and the Dodge/Chrysler Conquest. Every other Dodge like Journey or Charger could easily be replaced in the Chrysler division with a Chrysler CUV and a lower priced 300. The Durango is going to be a Jeep Wagoner from the looks of things as well.

I would have thrown my lots with Dodge before trying to make Chrysler mainstream as Dodge was already there and accepted by the public in that position... but oh well.

I would never have made Fiat a stand alone store and sold them at the Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge stores in case it didn't work, which clearly it is not and make it easy to pull the plug.

So a low volume, niche model dies and it's closed shop?. Chrysler went BK with a full-line, one model gone don't mean anything. From what I understand the next-gen Viper is delayed to MY '21 for parts sharing with Maserati / AR's, the v10 may not come back as the Viper dose.

Dart and 200 are gone too.
