jpd80
And purely supposition on rumors at the time. As we now know, Focus and C-Max leave MAP in 2018, so any ranger built after then would be at least a '19 model..
Pioneer
I'm hearing the Focus is done next June/July at MAP. Figure 6 months for retooling. Should be seeing some Rangers around January '18.

I was under the impression they were going to do the bulk of it as Focus production was winding down, and that there wouldn't be that much down time. fordmantpw
So, we're 18-20 months away from a Ranger, and Ford hasn't officially mentioned anything yet. GM would have shown 2-3 different versions of it by now.

BORG
Oh come now, Ford likes to debut its products at least 18 months early. Ford is probably the least disciplined when it comes to debuting products too early, it can be a 3-year process from concept to production. It's not necessarily a bad thing, their marketing is fairly strategic. Edited May 18, 2016 by BORG

No idea what it's going to take the switch that plant over. DTP was 6 weeks bulldozing the body shop, but we weren't going from unibody to a framed vehicle so final and paint were easy. fordmantpw
Not always. Fusion debuted in January 2012 and went into production in October. Super Duty debuted in September, begins production in July. '15 F150 debuted in January, began production in July. Production debuts are typically < 12 months for Ford. Production concepts are generally in the 18 month range. At least, that seems to be what I remember as of late.

I think he was referring to the production based concepts such as the Atlas which was the 2015 F150 and it debuted in January 2013. But that's not always the case (Fusion e.g.). They like the buzz and keeping everyone guessing.

NLPRacing
I bet we see something Ranger related at this year's State Fair of Texas, can't wait!

DTP was 6 weeks bulldozing the body shop, but we weren't going from unibody to a framed vehicle so final and paint were easy. Well, the problem they had at MAP paint shop a few months ago probably accelerated wherever work they need to do in there to get ready. Last I heard, they were painting cars by hand. Not sure if that's still the case or not.

wildosvt
I don't think we'll see anything about Ranger until 2017. You should hear something earlier than that. .The temporary plan is for MAP to build 240-250K units (focus/cmax) next year. Al ranger was in paint shop recently. (I work there)
jpd80
2010 to 2017 would be a seven year run for T6 product cycle, about right for a global platform, especially if a major evolution was to include input from North America - think EUCD to CD4 and maybe we see the elements coming together... blksn8k2
Al=A Or Al=Aluminum? As long as we're spreading rumors might as well add an aluminum body, right? All kidding aside, that would be quite an advantage for Ford. No one else even has a full-size truck in AL much less a mid-size. Can you imagine an aluminum body 4-door Ranger with the 2.7L EB and 4x4? Perfect!
fordmantpw
If the Ranger is NOT aluminum, and it is based off the current global Ranger, then it won't weigh any less than the current F150, so it would seem to me that it would have to go to Al. I was about to ask about that...when was the last time the T6 had a major refresh. If the next Ranger is Aluminium that would be pretty impressive since all the Rangers around the world would be same material, which would be another logistical issue.
