2016 Lincoln MKX - engine power issues

Recommended Posts

We purchased our MKX at the end of January 2016.

On March 14, my wife was driving and as she was slowing down to approach an intersection, the engine stopped. The screen in the tachometer said "Full Accessory Power Active" and the indicator light on the Engine On/Off button flashed green. She was able to stop the car (albeit in the middle of the intersection), turn the power off and restart the car.

The next morning we brought it to Lincoln. After two days of testing it, they told us they couldn't find anything wrong.

Fast forward to this past Friday (May 13). I'm driving and a similar situation happened to me. I was slowing to approach a turn and the car lost power and was just coasting. The same errors as my wife had - Full Accessory Power Active and a flashing Engine On/Off button. This time, since we were not on a busy street, I was able to safely stop the car and take a video of the condition of the car. I had to first put the car in Park - then I was able to turn off and restart the car.

The MKX is currently at the dealer. They haven't found anything so far but are still running tests.

Has anyone seen this problem before? Especially on a car so new? (As of 5/13, we had 2,800 miles on it).

Thanks,

John

It seems to also be happening on new Fusions. The messages and lights don't mean anything - it just means the engine shut off. Have not heard the problem or the fix - could be the throttle body as that's been a problem in the past.

I'm sure it will be fixed soon and a TSB issued (if it hasn't already been issued).

Is there anywhere I can point the technicians to regarding the Fusion issues? I really don't want to take the car back from them until they find and fix the issue.

So I heard back from the dealer/service department. They said there was a TSB with this issue that required a software update to the PowerTrain Control Module and then re-calibrate everything.

Does this make sense? Would that cause this problem?

UPDATE - on Saturday, I had the identical problem again, so the "repair" they performed did not fix the issue! :-(

I have a meeting with the General Manager of the dealer to discuss my options tomorrow. Hopefully I won't have to go through the whole NJ Lemon Law procedure!
