Lexus IS gets hit with a bigger ugly stick...

I just don't understand how 1) designers can look at that and think " let's go with that design", and then 2) customers say "oh yeah, that looks great, I want to buy that."

I do like the headlight and taillight graphics (just the look within the assemblies, not their overall shape/design) better than the outgoing model, but that's about it.

I find the smaller vehicles to be less offensive than before but not by much.

I think they're just trying to be different and I assume based on sales it seems to be working for them.

I think Acura did the same thing but with less favorable results.

Here's a question for you. What Japanese motor company at the moment has NICE design language?? I'll help you. NONE OF THEM. Think about it. We've discussed what Lexus has out there. Yuck. Mazda?? Yuck, na, not much going on there. Toyota?? Yawn, not much going on there. Nissan?? Yuck, in competition with Lexus for the ugly award. Mitsubishi? They should just quit already, ugly and unappealing. In the end, I believe Infiniti probably has the nicest Japanese design language out there for SUVs at the moment. From a purely looks perspective, I'd take just about anything from Ford or GM over just about anything Japanese at the moment and might even consider a Durango over many of them.

I like most of Honda's designs and some of the newer Acura. Nissan would be second. But that's about it.

We looked at all the CUVs at the auto show and didn't like any of them as much as the Edge/MKX. Pilot and Q5 weren't bad. The rest were terrible in our opinion.

I'd put Mazda at the top of the Japanese list, with Infiniti second and Honda third.

Nissan has gotten weirder and weirder lately

My opinion on Lexus is like most here. I don't mind Acura's TLX (it's much closer to the '05-12 TL, which was a great design), but beyond that don't like much at Acura...that includes the new grille, which I think looks worse than the latest beaks).

I don't like the arched fenders and quarter panels on the Mazda 6 or the orange electronics. But the new Miata looks great.

I didn't realize they still used red/orange electronics. And I honestly am not a big fan of the Miata. Especially the tail lights.
