Lincoln RWD here we come...... Possibly new developments????

Recommended Posts

Well well well my friends.... Here we are and I'm excited to say the least..... I've been very disappointed over the last several months seeing as Lincoln has decided to use a stretched and widened Fusion platform for the Conti and other Lincoln shenanigans... But today I have a new found hope! Do tell what you think..... http://www.themustangnews.com/content/2016/03/seventh-gen-s650-ford-mustang-due-in-2020/#.Vx0Sssj3anM

Nothing new here that I can see.

Maybe not necessarily "new" news, but reaffirmed strong possibilities..... All I've been hearing is, CD6, CD6, CD6, but this is much more realistic sounding..... I have great feelings about this.... I hope it happens and is very true.... Does anyone know anything about this code name?

I thought they were just repeating the platform plans that were published a few months ago.

I don't think CD714 means a "CD7" platform necessarily - could still be on CD6.

No, I already saw the "platform plans".... This is about the next Mustang for 2020 with that platform shared with a Lincoln of some sort.... I haven't heard anything like this, since the 2014 rumors about the S550 Mustang, but those didn't have any meat to 'em.... Both give some deeper insight that would suggest a definite plan.... I think it falls beautifully in line with their goal of 300,000 units globally by 2020. If they hit or exceed that goal, they'll feel as though they reached somewhat of a comeback and credibility to launch what many call a "niche vehicle"....... Although, if it's a full size flagship, to me that's not necessarily a "niche vehicle", although they don't sell in large numbers, due to the large price associated with them.... I and many others, I think you as well if I'm not mistaken, would be all over a RWD-biased Lincoln, you could say one to fill the role the LS left...... Also, I'm hopeful modern tech for engines and a 10-speed tranny, etc would allow for a V8 option in some form by 2020..... 2020 can't come soon enough.....

A lot of those plans are subject to change, the original document with that outline was from 2014

so it possible that when an update comes out later this year, we may have a better idea of what's planned.

I can't see the need for an even larger Lincoln car, especially one planned so far in front,

my guess is that Ford simply allocated a cost base for the project so it couild develop

a styling concept for discussion..

Not this again....the S650 an interative update and Lincoln is not going to use it because it's a closed up inflexible platform for which Lincoln has no use. New platforms better suited to the next decade of luxury cars is on its way and it focuses on AWD and Electrification. Mustang sells enough cars to justify its standalone existence and can avoid any of the compromises that come with cramming the needs of others down its throat.

Why is the Mustang platform untouchable? Why can't there be a Lincoln coupe? Because Ford is cheap and ruined it for themselves.... To spend that kind of money on a platform that's for one car, which btw isn't the best out of the competition currently, shows Ford's incompetent leadership. They should development an "Alpha" platform like GM if they knew any better...... Basing a luxury brand around electrification and FWD-AWD platforms is so wrong and all the money spent will never be made back soon enough for them to be a profitable company in this lifetime..... People who buy Tesla's will not buy a Lincoln..... They will never get over 300,000 units globally by 2020, I'd bet big on that, unless they turn into China's brand and just leave America all together, because I don't know that anyone would miss them with how Ford is treating that once great brand. It's so saddening.... The new Continental shouldn't have 6-speed, I thought it was a joke.... I know it's very heavy, because nothing innovative was done as usual, just using the same old Ford platform and altering the platform dimensions..... Should of got a bigger V6 or a small V8, my choice and vote would most definitely be a 8/10-speed with a 4.0TT V8.... The EPA should be abolished and replaced to focus on the real issues, not ruining companies so they have to rebuild their whole company around small displacement turbocharged engines..... Vote TRUMP

You know what?

Just go buy a Caddilac and be done with it. Sheesh.

I absolutely could, but do I want too? I love Lincoln and just wish they wouldn't revolve around the EPA, because it's not rocket science to see that all the other luxury brands offer RWD/AWD, I4's, I6/V6's, V8's, V10's, V12/W12's, etc...... It's a damn shame Mark and Kumar are trying to create a luxury brand "Prius" lineup...... I love my 02 LS, it's great.... RWD, V8, fast, totally comfortable for a good 3 hour road trip, and quiet when you need to be..... But it's still that prestigious V8 and unmatched RWD-bias...... If they made the LS with RWD-biased AWD, it would've really been big...... And a higher end center stack/better design...... Exterior is breathtaking.....

The issue that you and others seem to have is that you look at Lincoln today and think that's it, this is all they will ever be. Ford has plans for Lincoln, but they won't and can't come over night with the snap of a finger. It'll take years for the full plan to come to fruition. Did Cadillac get where they are today right away? Or have they continually improved their products over the last decade?

Look at it this way - which scenario would you prefer?

1) Lincolns that are direct rebadged Fords (think last-gen models), retaining that rebadge image with the brand treading water at best, while new FWD and RWD platforms/models are in development (optimized for different uses FWD for crossovers, RWD for sedans),

OR

2) Unique Lincoln top hats that ride on existing Ford platforms, that improve the brand's image and with 2 consecutive years of growth (with the trend continuing this year thus far), all while new FWD and RWD platforms/models are in development (again optimized for different uses FWD for crossovers, RWD for sedans and perhaps a sporting crossover).

The reality is, it takes years for the platforms and products you want to be developed, and given Ford's situation , they weren't able to devote resources to Lincoln until now. All indications are that they are working on a new RWD platform that will underpin some models that you're looking for, but again, they're coming in a few years. So in the meantime, Ford/Lincoln took an intermediate step until they get to those new products.

Not to mention, Lincoln is laying the "luxury brand" groundwork in this intermediate step with customer experience/service, showroom enhancements, ownership perks, programs like Black Label, etc, so that when the products DO come, the customer experience is what buyers expect of a luxury brand.

Or you can do what Cadillac has done....spend billions on RWD platforms, neglect customers you have, ignore customer experience, jack prices sky high, and watch sales (of those expensive platform vehicles) dwindle....

Hey, I'm all for it.... Like the original post stated, I can't wait..... I'm ecstatic! Where we took a wrong turn was, when it was suggested a RWD vehicle was not the plan, they are looking to be FWD, fully electrified vehicles in the next decade or whatever..... I don't agree with that... I'm all for an electric sedan, crossover, maybe small SUV, but gas engines are most definitely here to stay and it would be foolish to turn this great company into a "Tesla"...... If in fact 2020 is in the pipeline for some form of a new RWD-biased sedan, I can't wait for the next 3-4 years.....

Really? I suppose it was a nice chassis, but it looked like a Mitsubishi.

As a posed too the shit FWD fat looking MKS or MKZ? How could you say Mitsubishi? Are you high? It's probably the best Lincoln's offered in over 20 years..... This crap now, might as well buy the Ford, after all it is paying for the Lincoln name and higher end leather seating......

First of all, my name shows the support unlike any of you....... I'm only here for Lincoln, I don't buy the Ford brand, which is why refuse to buy the new Lincoln's...... Second of all, I am a Trump supporter, he will stop this bs with the auto industry. Third, I'm no troll, I equally support Lincoln and Cadillac, American Luxury in general and speak up when I see something so gross...... This is a mere image of what the Lincoln brand is truly at heart.... Hopefully they stick the plans and build a RWD platform for multiple vehicles and then everyone will be happy... Oh and bring fuel efficient V8's back into the game with the 10-speed tranny's.....
