BLIS and radar detectors...

I ran a search and couldn't find anything on this, but I'm curious if the BLIS, which is said by Ford to use radar, works on the same bands monitored on radar detectors. I've got a 2016 GT Premium on order and want to know if I'm going to have issues with my valentine one. Any one running a radar detector who has BLIS installed.

Sorry... Just wanted to be sure. Here's the quote off the Ford website about BLIS.

"The available BLIS® with cross-traffic alert helps make driving more convenient. It uses radar to identify if a vehicle is detected in your blind spot and alerts you with an indicator light in the appropriate exterior mirror. Cross-traffic alert also uses radar to watch for traffic behind you as you’re slowly backing out of a parking spot or driveway. If cross-traffic sensors detect a vehicle approaching from up to 15 yards away, you will be audibly and visually alerted."

Does anyone have a radar detector installed with the BLIS system in their car?

You are correct. I just reread my manual. I thought they were using the 12 sonar sensors, 6 in front and 6 in the rear, but they do indeed show a diagram of a radar antenna under the bumper cover. I don't know what frequency it is on but it is definitely not anywhere near the traffic radar frequencies.

Funny thing is I don't speed as much as I used to, but my V1 has saved me enough times to pay for itself. It's not a make or break item for me, which is why I proceeded with the order, but it's something I'm really going to miss if it interferes. I might have to start stalking "premium" mustangs to see if I get any hits. Just afraid they might think I'm trying to race.

Funny thing was I invested in a V1 about 5 years ago and had it about 2 months (was commuting from NJ to MD twice a week...now doing the opposite LOL) and resold it because I didn't pick up any State Troopers tracking the times I was driving! I got my money back though, so I didn't "waste" it.

Knock on wood, haven't gotten pulled over for speeding either..but then again I normally only do 75-80 on the turnpike and I have people trying to blow my doors off in the left lane...FFS

You didn't have it long enough, but it's become an extension of my driving by now. Anytime the sound for KA goes off my foot comes off the accelerator, I quickly glance at my speed, my eyes look towards the arrows and then out the windows. There are plenty of blind corners and cops hiding behind trees in my area (I even seen them hide behind a street light with their arm sticking out with the radar gun). I don't really speed on the street, but the highways in South Florida kind of require a Limit+10mph speed or you'll get run over. So needless to say, I'm dying to know the answer to this. At this point, I think I'm waiting for the car to test it, and placing a next day order if it turns out to cause issue.

Well I can tell you from professional experience that the radar from the BLIS will not affect your Valentine One.

Do you mind telling me how long you've had your Valentine?

I purchased mine back in 2007, and it turns out their upgrade option for the newer "junk-K fighter" (which is what would avoid this issue), is nothing more than a small discount for a new model. So I'd basically have to buy it all over again, even though my detector's working fine. For now, I figured I could disable the K band detection, but that's not the way I really want to go.

  • 1 month later...

I have a lot of experience and knowledge about radar detectors and laser blockers. Blind spot monitors and ACC shouldnt bother them or give false positives. It is a different frequency. LED headlights, however, are an issue for laser detectors. Only some of the higher end ones like Beltronics Pro series can really handle the LED headlight issue.

I am not a fan of Valentine detectors. They can't do anything for laser, and laser is becoming very popular. Especially here in the NE.
